My little brother's computer is very good but it has problems playing video games. When he plays CoD, it drops in framerate quite a bit at times. It isn't even on the highest settings. It does this with almost every video game and it really shouldn't considering his specifications. Here is basically what he has:

AMD 64 3400+ 2.2GHz
Radeon X800 XT
1024 MB RAM

This should be more than enough to play games without having crappy framerates. He clears his spyware often and it doesn't seem to help anything. I recently updated his video card drivers too. Any tips?

Thanks.

you cant expect your framerate to be smooth as butter ALL the time, although with that rig you should be getting pretty awesome framerate averages. If you've updated drivers, aren't having temp problems, and have a pretty clean hard drive, maybe you just have your expectations too high.

btw: try it on the highest settings, at high resolutions- same problem?

try uninstalling and then installing the newest drivers for the card, see if you still get the same problem. Also check teh heat of the card to see if it is running hotter than it should be.

Format/ re-install. Almost willing to bet he's got excess crap in his bckground.

Exactly how old is your little brother? If he's in the 8-12 range, I wouldn't be surprised if he was lieing about his specs just so he doesn't "embarrass" himself infront of his older bro. Either that or perhaps he gave you the specs for the pc he WANTS rather than the pc he HAS and ended up screwing the sentence so it sounded like he was talking about the pc he had, or perhaps he thought you wanted the specs for the pc he wanted.

I know I used to do ALL of them allot.

Unless of cours you helped build the pc for him. I just assumed that you were probably in college or something and he built it himself while you were away. And assuming makes and ass outa u and me.
