Video Editing

Okay, I have a camcorder and recorded some footage onto it and I need to edit the video. No, its not a porn movie. Anyone know an easy free video editing software that I can use? Its my first time editing so I don't have a clue.

Any help is appreciated.

For free, you could use Windows Movie Maker 2...which is pretty basic. If you're really adventurous, you could try the free version of Avid's video editor, but that has a really steep learning curve. BTW, what kind of camera is it? MiniDV? DVD? Because that affects how you throw it on the computer.

Its recorded on tape though, so I have to figure out how to convert it from the tape to the PC.

MiniDV then. Alright, thats good. You'll need a firewire cable and port/card...So if you don't have one, you'll need to get one. To use it, plug the smaller end of the cable into the firewire port (check in the camera's manual) and plug the other into the firewire port (duh), then put the camera into VCR mode. The camera should then show up in the editing program. In windows movie maker, theres a capture from DV thing. Capture what you need and you'll be ready to edit your movie.

Yeah, DV is the way to go.

Avid is OK. There are a number of tutorials for it.

Thanks, I started using Windows Movie Maker. But a problem occured, it started to crash when I split videos; it didn't do it early on. Its really annoying me now. I tried using Adobe Premier and its too complicated to use compared to Movie Maker. Anyone know any others similar programs to Movie Maker?

Pinnacle Studio is easy to use and pretty cheap too. I suggest you try that.
