i don't know what to do. i have a random video glitch. everything seems fine until you come around some corner in the game and all of the sudden there are purple-ish jagged pixel patterns everywhere. like a bad acid trip. they range through all sorts of colors and flicker all over certain areas in the game. if i make a video adjustment in the game they will often disappear until i turn another corner. or it will completely cover a charactors face only. or everything will seem fine until i turn on the flashlight. help!! ;(
I HAVE:
athlon amd 2500+
1 gig RAM
ati radeon
all in wonder 9600xt
updated video drivers,
tried omega drivers
now what?
every other game i have runs solid. bf42, bf nam, Doom3

I'll copy and paste my testimonial

I had this same problem with my Radeon 9800 Pro with any drivers past Catalyst 4.9. That version, I think, just so happens to be the last driver version before ATI included that A.I. I downloaded the latest Omega drivers and turned OFF the A.I. Voila, all graphics glitches gone. It even RUNS better, and I bumped the antialiasing to 4x, though that might be the Omega tweaks at work...

This can also be done with the Catalyst Control Center, but I've heard too many bad things about it, so I opted for the Omegas.

ok i just went into the omega settings and disabled A.I and ran the game but after travelling through the map a little ways the glitch was waiting for me around the corner as always.
are there any basic settings i don't know about? i wonder what type of error this is. i'm going crazy.

As a reference, my 3D settings are as follows:

FSAA: Application Preference
Anisotropic Filtering: Application Preference
Texture Preference: High Quality
Mipmap Detail Level: High Quality
TruForm: Application Preference
Wait for Vertical Sync: Default Off
SmartShader: No Effect
A.I.: Disabled

Also, are you using the latest Omega drivers, released 12/3?

same issue

I have the same thing with my rig as well, I'll post a screener or two later. I tried all types of different A.F. modes, A.A. modes, and resolutions. I changed the shader detail to the non-reccomended low setting and it took care of the problem slightly.

I get the problem far worse than you though, walls especially in stairways, and always the black dudes face.... It's odd because the game ran great with all reccomended settings in the beggining. Now later in the game it's starting to run horribly.

I have new ATI drivers, Chipset Drivers, sound drivers, and DX.
AMD athlon 2800+ 333fsb
1gb PC3200
ATI Radeon 9600 8x with fast write enabled.
Abit mobo

I would say it's a shader problem but I doubt it as the issue arrived well into the game and was not an issue throughout the entire thing.

Maybe Valve should beta test more before releasing such games.

1st off, thank you hewhowearspants for working with me on this. i just matched your setings you posted and yes i have the latest omega drivers. sustainblue, it sounds like you have the exact problem as me and very similar hardware. i actually have it as bad as you. the pic i posted is a very minor example. i was late for work so i snapped that quickie. i get it all over faces and walls and windows and passing trains. then if i make ANY adjustment it seems to disappear only to return around the next corner.
1 thought, could be way off.....
could it be that my monitor is old and doesn't like anything above 60hz frame rate?
(HITACHI superScan Elite 802)

HA!! you were right hewhowearspants!!! i made my settings the same and it worked!!!! not sure which actual adjustment it was but it works. thank you soooooooooo much!
