Video Issues With Torch

I have a Geforce 4 MX440 card and often experience flickering in the graphics when using the torch in the game. Even if I then switch of the torch, I still get the flickering and can see objects drawn in the distance. The only way to fix this is to exit the game and restart which takes ages. If I don't use the torch the game runs perfectly. I know I should get a better card but is there a fix for this?
