My computer can't run CS:S with 1600x1200 resolution, high quality textures, full AA and AF, of course, because it gets choppy.

What is the importance of each setting as it relates to quality/performance. For example, would it be better to run 1600x1200 resolution with no AA/AF, or 1024x768 with AA but no AF, or AF but no AA? I don't know where the good balance is. What gives me the best quality while maintaining decent framerates? Thanks.

I played last night with 1024x768 with AA/AF off. I got between 25 and 60 FPS, but the image quality was lacking IMO.

My setup:
P4 2.4 GHz
512MB PC4000 DDR
Radeon 9600Pro AIW
RoadRunner (350+ Mbps)

Looks like a good start to me.

I'd try uping the rez to 1280x1024 to clean things up a bit. play with the other settings too...don't just sit on AA and AF. With som other settings reduced or turned off...I bet you could get 1280x1024 playable with 2xAA and maybe a little AF.

Or go even lower on the rez, leave all settings on and leave AA on.

Experiment like crazy

Screw FSAA and all that stuff.
I would be glad to turn off the shadows and other detail levels to low except for texture detail and set that to high and then use 1600x1200 resolution.
