vidio and sound stutter

New computer core 2 quad, g force 9400 gt, 8 gig ram xp2000 service pack 3 sound blaster X-fi soound card.

few mins into game vidio and sound start stuttering. Like the frame rate is slow
how do i check the frame rate. I have updated all drives and installed them.

hl2 runs fine on my p4 computer. Is there a problem with the quads?
tried just about everything.

it is the same with all games including old ones like gost recon and t woods golf 2004

any ideas

I have a quad and havent had any trouble. Does this happen with other games as well?

Is everything on this PC new (9400, creative xfi)? Try updating drivers for the 9400. I think they have 181.20? drivers out now. If you have onboard sound (probably disabled in bios) try taking the Xfi OUT of the PC and using the onboard sound to see if stuttering continues.

Also why 8 GB ram? If you are running a 32bit OS (most do) then your PC won't even try to use those 8gbs. <4gb accessed. Also most motherboards can't read that many total GBs or a 4gb stick (if all on 1 ram stick). So try running it with just 2GB ram and see if there is stutter.
