I'm heavily considering getting this because it's well within my price range and the reviews I've found have been largely positive, however I thought I'd run it past you guys since I'm completely clueless about these things. I'm not a videophile, so as long as it runs well and looks good with no ghosting/dead pixels/whatever (which reviews indicate it does) then I'll be happy, but if there's anything to be weary about with the brand or model then I'd rather know about it before I buy a lemon. Any help appreciated, cheers.

Hah yeah that's the exact same one (VX2433WM). Lemme know how you get on with it. :)

What will you be using it for, just PC gaming or HD consoles/movies as well? This monitor is 16:9, so you will be losing some screen real estate for PC gaming and general use. It's great for the latter though.

I thought about using it for my PC once I upgrade, but that's probably not going to happen as I'm not going to be running into any large amounts of money for quite a while after this, so just the Xbox and DVDs mainly (and maybe bluray eventually).

Anyway I think I'm going to go for it, I just wanted to cover my ass in case there was anything really obvious I was missing. Thanks guys. :)

?
Most games I play support widescreen resolutions. I'm not sure how you lose it for general use either.

Generally, a 24" 16:10 monitor will have a native resolution of 1920x1200, while a 16:9 monitor will have 1920x1080. With the 16:10, you will have a slightly higher resolution for the same ppi, which is what I mean by having more real estate. A 16:10 monitor will allow you to see more vertical space, which is better for web browsing and documents. In PC games, you'll be able to see more of the scene than you would with a 16:9 monitor, provided the game is running at the native resolution of each. But as I said, for straight out HD movies and console games, a 16:9 monitor better suited.

I bought this last week http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VH226H...7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232360368&sr=1-7

It's 2" smaller, but hardly a huge difference. The quality and sharpness of the picture is amazing. I can't believe something so good could cost such a small amount of cash.

The speakers are ....worthy, i guess. I use Sennheiser HD580 headphones anyway unless i'm playing 2player in which case i use the monitor speakers....they're not shoddy or that tinny.
