They always choose to research the oldest games ffs.

Duke Nukem, the platformer from the early 90s?

Dukem Nukem movie lol. ;)

By using a virtual town based on scenes from Duke Nukem, and asking volunteers to navigate their way to various landmarks around that town in a set period of time -- albeit minus the weaponry and aliens -- the NIMH team, led by Neda Gould, have been able to assess spatial awareness and memory.
That hardly sounds like a violent video game.

Hehe... Deathnote, AHA, but yeah, thats cool.

That's what I thought too. Although engaging in most things violent (such as violent video games) has shown to increase rather than suppress aggression and anger.

The research was based on Duke Nukem, a popular video game
I... what? I mean, do these researchers live in a time bubble where it's 1996 and the Pentium 2 being revolutionary? They probably calculated the statistics using a punch card computer.

What the **** is this?

Yeah. It's funny watching all the kids doing karate moves after seeing an action flick.

Lol.

We've all done it I think.

As for violent games fighting depression, I think they do. I'm always in a better mood after playing a violent game. It's fun. Fun fights depression.

Speaking of which, I've been in a bad mood lately, and I haven't played any games in days... hmmmm.

A story comes to mind. When I was about twelve, my brother (who's 2 years younger than me) and I were playing Mortal Kombat for hours straight, and then we got into a fist fight over something I don't remember. Usually our fights aren't terribly violent, but this was different. We grabbed these wooden swords from Medieval Times and proceeded to beat the living shit out of each other, as well as using various punches and kicks. One of his friends who was watching and too scared to enter the fray did the "MORTAL KOMBAAAT!" shout and hid under the bed.

Was Mortal Kombat directly responsible for the unusually violent nature of this fight? Probably not 100%, but the violent gameplay that the game has definitely had some sort of impact on the intensity of the fight.

Anyway, in my experience engaging in aggressive and destructive acts while very pissed off results in increased aggression- for a time. Eventually I will run out of steam, and feel a whole lot better.

There is a reason the game is rated Mature. It's exceptionally violent and glorifies gore and murder. The perfect game for kids.

I for one promote that all kids should play Silent Hill at least once.

...a hugely popular virtual reality adventure in which the eponymous Duke...

Why can't news stations ever get things right?
"virtual reality adventure"

We have pigs that have shotguns?

Because for the most part, the media is made of ignorami who delude themselves into thinking that they know everything about everything, and who then make less-than-astute consumers believe what they're saying is true.

Gamers don't need shit like this to back up our side of the argument.

LOL... I was watching MSNBC or whatever and I saw a story on violent video games. Included was a segment from Episode Two, showing a Strider and the disintegrating cabin. Sure looked good. :P

Half Life?! I mean come I can somewhat understand the arguments of violent video games but when people say that games like half life and halo are prime offenders it makes my blood boil at how stupid these people are! :flame:

How would thta have anything to support their arguement - include a clip from Manhunt or GTA more like it?

I know. HL2 doesn't promote half the violence that a game like GTA does, which is probably the king of all the games those people were talking about.

I remember a case in which two young adult males got drunk and were playing GTA. They decided after awhile to reenact the game, so they got into their car, found a pedestrian, beat him to death and ran him over, and then returned to their house to play more GTA.

Yeah? And I might drink a bottle of crack cocaine and drive over people. Is that the game or the crack's fault? Neither. It's the person who must claim responsibility for his/her own actions. Don't do drugs.

(BTW Drinking crack was a joke)

Also, I have been drunk and playing GTA, and never felt any kind of desire to run over people.

Some people are just crazy.

That they are. It's like blaming guns when somebody shoots somebody, or blaming the car for an accident. Neither are to blame, and neither is GTA. Which is why I think the "GTA voices in my head made me do it" explanation is bullshit.
