oh noes not the mentally unstable!!!

RICHMOND, Va. - The governor said Monday he has closed the loophole that allowed a mentally disturbed Virginia Tech student to acquire the guns used to kill 32 students and faculty members.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine issued an executive order requiring that people who are found to be dangerous and ordered to undergo involuntary mental health treatment must be included in a database barring them from buying guns.

well ...duh? why did it take the deaths of 32 people before such obvious legislation was put into place?

Well at least they have done this, though they must be the stupidist men alive not to do this before.

but they purposefully left out the mentally unstable ..this latest thing fixes the loophole that allowed them access to guns ..surely someone must have thought when drawing up the gun laws that it didnt cover every possibiity ..seems like it was an afterthought ..which is odd because the mentally unstable are one missed pill away from criminal behaviour (in some cases)

How many other states need to do this still? I wonder if we need a shooting in every state before it becomes a federal law.

Well it seems that it IS illegal for mentally unstable people to buy guns, the only change thats been made is that you no longer have to have been committed to an institute to be entered into the database.

I imagine that the thinking was that non-institutionalized patients represented both a large group of people and and a fairly minor threat.

How can they do this to crazy people? Haven't they suffered enough, now they're being discriminated against, by law?! What has America turned into...

Wow, I would have though common sense would have precluded them from the beginning.

im sure all it involves is a checkbox on the application
"Are you crazy?"
Yes No Maybe
