Yeah, so I was browsing some ummm *ahem* free adult web sites.... and blam I got a virus... Or at least thats what AVG says... Its some sort of trojan horse or something. Anyway, it tells me that to get rid of it, it'll be enough to just delete it, well, the freakin' things keep coming back. System restore > keep coming back, Spybot > keep coming back, Adaware > keep coming back. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!

boot up into safe mode with Admin privilages & then run all of ur spyware/adware prgrams. That shud get rid of it for u, optherwise u may need to re-format. PS next time u visit porn sites get a popup block & never click on anything (apart from the sexeh pics :P)

See thats whats crazy, I had AVG running, and I also have spybot, and ad aware, the only thing I clicked on was a link to a website, and the virus thing popped up instantly, I didn't download anything or do anything abnormal. Like intentionally run any scripts or anything... But I'll try safe mode again, thanks for you help, any other suggestions?

Yup, it is. You can type completely non-related words like pie. And somehow, it ends up with porn. =/

Right - what does AVG tell you the trojan's name is?
Try and get the file path for the trojan itself/it's parts.

Download Unlocker

Reboot into safe mode, go to where the trojan is located (usually Windows/system32 ) and delete the appropriate files. Use Unlocker if need be.

Done.

- stay away from any links that redirect you all over the place. That is just asking for it. It's like Russian roulette. If it redirects you to download_a_virus.com, you Win!

- Also, avoid mouse over GIF's (flash banners) - I have been attacked a few times because my mouse was hovering over a dirty image.

- OH, and never click any advertisements of any kinds. If you want to check out an iPod, then go to apple.com (the maker), or a retailer you trust, for example. Don't click on an iPod add from somewhere you don't even know.

- Also, mousing over links will show where they lead to, so you know right away where the link will go.

- It seems like it's those sites that know where you live, for example, "find a date in Virginia" and you live in Virginia are bad news. get out of there.

Im sure you knew all of this already, but this is what works for me, I don't have any problems so far.

I just re-install windows if anything bad happens. It doesn't take more then an hour. But re-installing your programs can be time consuming.

Thanks guys, had to work last night, having another go at this now. AVG tells me the following:

Trojan horse Downloader.Agent.ELF
Trojan horse Generic.XFV
Trojan horse Clicker.FR
Trojan horse Generic.XKS

Each one of these has a file in the windows/system32 folder, and I can delete each one, but they keep coming back!

Actually, I didn't know all of that, thanks :)

but doing this is been stupid, why re-format when u can find the answer & solve it. this will better ur knowledge.

Re-formating? That's the coward's way out...

I have to agree with Saketi.

well i ran vcleaner, and even renamed it, it appears to have not had any effect :(, this sucks, I can't afford nortons, and i can't figure out an exact name for whatever bug/bugs I have... any thoughts on this guys?

Innervision, I had a recurring Virus problem, but it disabled my interwebs, you're lucky. I spent like 3 months straight with about 5 hours of sleep each night trying to fix it. It might have Copied the name of some files in system32 or WINDOWS. I don't really remember how to fix it, your best bet might be a reformat, sorry.

You need to stay off the net while you delete things.

Norton won't do **** all either.. Trojans usually do funny things to Antiviruses.
