I'm wondering if anyone has an idea or what I should expect for Vista to cost?

I'm wanting to be ready for a DX10/Vista setup on launch. So need a motherboard, gpu too. Going to be pricey.

Probably around what XP cost when it first came out.
$150 - $250

What you need to upragde a 3800+ for vista?
I have a 3000+ will I need to upgrade?

I'm just looking at a motherboard/GPU and more RAM, the CPU should be good for a while after.

It's Microsoft, of course it will be overpriced at first.

Thats not Microsoft, thats everybody.
Top of the line Graphic Card - $600
Top of the line Processor - $1000+

Plus theres a bunch of versions but for the average home user and gamer I'd either look into Home Pro or Extreme. I'm taking Extreme, which costs the most but I want the most game accelerating features.

well there currentlly is no dx10 card on the market yet until winter months

I'm trying to find out if PC's that will include Vista as part of the package are going to be marked up much... thinking like $50 added to the price of the PC for the "home" version sounds right doesn't it?

I wasn't even paying attention to PC prices when WindowsXp was relatively new. PC packages always include WindowsXP OS and it doesn't really seem to affect the price. For example I picked up a PC with everything including monitor and burner with XP for $200 2 years ago. Anyone know if when XP was new - were PC's that included WindowsXP much more expensive?

When I buy a new PC 1st quarter next year I may buy a bundle and I'm hoping the Vista OS doesn't make the price really high.

Well you see what they did with Xp, is if you were a distributer you could get Xp Home at like $50 and Xp Pro at like $100. They will most likely do the same with Vista. Infact this is the majority of where the profits will come from not people buying it on the shelves.

PC gamer says £50-100 depending on the package
microsoft is making Halo 2 for PC exclusive to vista so they deffo want them to sell

there's 6 versions of vista ..we'll probably in see 3-4 of those at retail

retail will cost $250 canadian ..or around there for the home version ...the OEM version will probably be half that. Microsoft has a licensing argreement with retailers that they can only sell winxp oem as part of a computer package ..all other customers pay retail price ...some retailers will only sell you the OEM version if it comes preinstalled on a pc ..others will sell it to you if you buy it with a few other items ..for example my fave retailer sells winxp pro for $140 (canadian) which is about $100 less than retail ...they'll only sell it as a bundle ..a fan + mouse + winxp pro.

so prices will vary for vista as well ..I'll get vista when the OEM version is made available

I won't be getting vista until at least a year after it comes out.

Bill Gates is laughing all the way to the bank  That's why I don't support him. bwhahah owned

You can pay for it, or well...you know...do the thing most tech PC people do. Use "Offsite Backups" ;).

If there's one thing I hate, its overpriced operating systems. I'm willing to pay high prices for top of the line graphics cards and stuff... but operating systems? I don't like doing that. I know without them nothing else would matter... but damn.

for some reason i want it when it comes out, i need to find the money though

i will just rob a store...

The Crowbar...probably the best tool in the world...

*drum beat to the joke*

It isn't even available for about 8+ months from today (4/1/2006) so you don't have to worry.. I might have to upgrade my PC just to make it that far myself.
