I've been wondering about this for a while...but will there be built in voice communication or are they leaving it out? Also if they did add it, is the voice quality gonna be equal to or better than that of Ut2k4's?

If they don't have it, they'll loose more than half of their clan's.

I havent played Ut2k4, how different is the quality?

...I don't think that would happen because there are tons of 3rd party voice communication programs..

Voice communication is part of the Source engine as it was with the HL1 engine. The last time I heard they were going to be using an improved codec. We know at least that it'll be better than HL1/CS1

Thank you chris for the straight answer.Thats why I love you.... :D

Aww, thanks. We still on for getting married next week? :p

Yes...I still have to get the best man. Then we will be set...

Can i be the priest guy who gets u 2 married!

well, if you own a cs server, you can use a better codec by just typing in 2 commands..

and its pretty clear, a LOT better than the one you're probably thinking of (default)

It would be cool if in Source you could edit your codec, so you could make your self sound like a robot, a girl or have deep sexy voice.

The default codec for HL1 engine based games is voice_miles

Counter-Strike currently has a voice_speex voice codec that servers can use. It's being and has been under "testing" right now, and it's most likely being tested for further use in Source games. The quality of the speec codec is much better then what you find in UT2004. Combine that with a server voice quality level of 5, and you have a near Ventrilo level quality. Pretty damn good for a game.

This quality level is a good indication of what you can expect for CS:Source, etc. I'm sure they will also let you exchange codecs, just like you can now.

Maybe we can have some high quality annoying music with an updated HLSS.

im forced to use ventrillo, ingame chat sounds kinda lame.
