Valve are in the semi-finals of the Escapist Developer Showdown 2011. They're up against Mojang, creators of Minecraft. Now I love Minecraft as much as the next guy but they just can't be allowed to beat Valve on this one!

I'm posting this here because Mojang have posted it on Facebook, hoping to gain a crapload of extra votes, so lets do the same for Valve!

Is this supposed to represent what developer was best in 2010? How excited we are for what the developer is doing in 2011? What our favorite developer is? I know this is ultimately a developer popularity contest, but could they atleast pretend this is a meaningful contest? What's the point of doing this annually? Anyway, I'm going to pretend this is supposed to be an annual evaluation thing, in which case I'm definitely not voting for Valve.

I don't think Valve have got much of a chance against Mojang. Everyone and their mother's playing Minecraft, while half the Valve fanboys seem to have pretty much finished whining about Ep3 and forgotten Valve ever existed. It's basically Portal 2 vs. Minecraft, meaning that if Valve does win, they'll arguably have produced a game whose popularity outstripped that of Minecraft before it was even released. Or maybe not. I'll vote Valve, unless anyone knows of a more meaningful contest somewhere.

Valve haven't done anything that really excites me recently, sure there's portal 2, but I'd rather they were working on a Half Life title. Left 4 Dead no longer really interests me and I couldn't give a stuff about Dota 2.
