This week definately had a better turnout than last week. I need an idea for next weeks contest though, so let me know if you have any ideas...

I agree, it got my vote.. Actually I'd be interested working with him on a full high res 3D model of it too, it just looks so much fun to model

If you want to model it, I've got no objections so long as you don't go about saying that it's only yours blah blah intellectual property blah.
Obvious stuff and such aside, it'd be cool to see it in 3D.


I'm glad folks liked the pic, since it was (as valve would put it) a placeholder for the other one that I never got around to completing before V-Day.

I really liked #3 by Mechagodzilla, the drawing was very high quality. But Mech's monster reminded me of the bullsquid, which caused me to imagine a HL2 with two very similar monsters running around in it. Meh. :hmph:
I voted for #8 by nerj. It's a good concept for the HL2 version of those annoying mini-nilhalith (spelling?) thingies that floated around throwing balls of energy at you in HL1.

(What? Mecha's drawing could also be used for the HL2 version of the bullsquid? Damn! Why didn't I think of that before? :x )

Thanks mate naa don't worry, I always give credit where credit is due. I'm hoping I'll get time to model it, it would be a great test of some muscle mimicing software a guy wrote me, haven't had a chance to really use that yet.

Some quick questions:

How big is it? compared to the average size human?

Where would it normally be found? Marshland/swamps, hot/cold climates etc.

It's a herbivore yeah?

You got any more sketches like this? I'd love to see more of them if you have.

I've never been much of a fan of the bullsquids, I think mechagodzilla's version would have been sooo much better. Heck aswell as thinking about modeling it I'm now considering buying the design off him for my mod. I think it looks so cool.

Voted for Mechagodzilla his drawing is a good quality semi-scary alien. No one elses was scarier. I have an idea for an art contest topic. How about design your own airplane, or design your own airplane that could be used in HL2?

I just want to say that was friday night when someone told me about this contest, so i hadn't much time to draw and paint something really good. Actually, that alien i draw is of a personal project. If i knew before, i'd make something better

Yeah it was a bit like a cross betwixt the Bullsquid and the (unused) PantherEye, but I thought it was excellent! Not so scary, but very much in the style of... Real good stuff. Well done Mecha!
