This is all over the net so I don't see why it shouldn't be here either.

Link.

Voxelstein 3D is an FPS game inspired by Wolfenstein 3D. The game uses Ken Silverman's (The master behind the Build Engine) VOXLAP engine to render voxels in software. The levels in the game are fully destructible - and by fully we mean fully.

The game world is built from tiny cubes called voxels. There are over 37 million in the first level. Rendering a world like this is slow (especially without hardware acceleration), but there is an advantage: voxels can be added, removed or otherwise altered very very quickly. This enables all kinds of cool stuff, including fully destructible worlds!

Features
-Weapons: knife, pistol, chaingun, C4
-Enemies: guard, officer
-Many treasures to collect
-Fully destructible world: blow holes in walls, ceilings, enemies, anywhere!
-Loads original sounds and music from Wolfenstein 3D

I'm playing through Delta Force right now (also voxel based). Quite nifty.

I don't think this game likes Vista. The loading screens flickered at seizure inducing speed and it crashed after 10 seconds.

And since we're on the subject: Best voxel game ever.

I also run in Vista and it doesn't seem to like fullscreen mode so try it windowed - make a shortcut to the "VXLST3D.exe" file, right-click it and properties, and then add /win at the end of the command line parameter.

Should look like this:
"C:\*the_folder_you_unpacked_it_into*\VXLST3D.exe" /win

That did the trick, thanks. Brings back fond memories. The physics are pretty cool, although a larger object, say a crowbar, would have been more useful than the little knife.

You can change the attack ratio of the knife to stab much faster. Makes it more useful and less tedious when trying to make a hole in a wall or objects.

Open up the config.ini file, browse down to the knife configuration bit and change the following:

Code:
# Firing delay (seconds)
Knife_fStabDelay = 0.4

to

Code:
# Firing delay (seconds)
Knife_fStabDelay = 0.01

Now he'll stab like Chuck Norris. :)

You can also change any of the other weapons too. Wish there was a way to increase the amount of C4 you can carry though. :/

I spent my all day in this crap few days ago.

Amazing!

A few points:

-The bloke is a mouse, you can fit through tiny holes!
-Setting the grenade damage radius bigger is a laugh, makes your computer almost crash but hey! i set it to 500 and the whole room pretty well fell apart.
-What's with the mass murderer picutres? also it was released on 20/04
-Compared to other games it really 'shows' what a computer is capable of, you know what i mean?

Press L, I, and M all at the same time. You'll get an audio confirmation calling you a cheater along with 999 ammo for every weapon.

Man I set the grenade radius up to like 15,000 (with damage set to 1)

Took out most of the level. Too awesome that in one second the entire level was almost one. A few NPC's and doors remained. I didn't want to manually saw thorugh the doors either.

Hm, I played with the config files as well before reading about your experiments with it, but it seems to me that the damage and radius stops increasing after a certain value.

Even if I use someone elses idea (like Iced_Eagle's) and I set the grenade radius to 15000, it only destroys some of it's surroundings.

How do you run it in Windowed mode? All it says is to use the command /win but I have absolutely no idea where this command goes.

Outcast was great too.

Make a shortcut to the "VXLST3D.exe" file, right-click that and properties. Go into the "Shortcut" tab and in the command line parameter put "/win" there.

Should look like this:
"*_bla_bla*\VXLST3D.exe" /win

I'd rather have a VoxelDoom.

This is okay but it's ugly as sin. D:

Awesome! I remember playing DF1 and 2 on a 2 computer cooperative LAN with my brothers.. ****ing good times.. the DF2 level editor was simply out of this world
Outcast used voxels too didn't it?

My friend loaned me his dusty copy of Outcast a while back, that game is horrible.

Controlling your character and stuff is an exercise in futility.

*lights torch*

Nah seriously, man, I think it was way ahead of its time. The worlds were so immersive and felt alive.. Music by the moscow symphony orchestra was ****ing brilliant..

Okay the action was a bit shitty. But there was soo many great things about it. The water graphics, the characters, the worlds were huge..

Thats the first thing I thought of when I read voxel.

Delta Force 2>all.

Truth. I played a shitload of Delta Force 2 despite that it was somewhat of a crappy game in retrospect. God, online play was terrible though.
