I downloaded the f.e.a.r. demo when it was released and i noticed in the fear options when i turned vsync on my gameplay was smooth and also i had everything on maximum meaning everything was on highest setting possible! My question is if i turn vsync on in my ati options will bf2 run smooth like f.ea.r? currently heres what i have my ati options..

What VSynch does, is it caps your FPS at your monitors refresh rate. Having a framerate higher than your monitors can cause tearing. Turning VSynch on might give a false impression of smoothness because there are less sways from HIGH fps to LOW FPS.

Set it only in your program options. It's something for people who have high end video cards that can outperform the game they're playing.

Well it depends what jumpyness you are having. If it's from a low framerate then Vsync on will not help. If it's jumpy because it's going from 80 to 40 FPS then yes it will smooth that out since it limits your FPS.

I always have Vsync on because I perfer to have my frames not sky rocket and then drop quickly back down, plus I don't get any tearing. You aren't seeing any of those extra frames your graphics card puts out anyway since what you see is limited by the refreshrate of your monitor.

i really can never play bf2 in high fire fights. I always try to stay away from those cause my fps drop. the highest fps ive gotten is 70 and thats when i was far aaway in the map looking at the ground or something of that nature.

Say if i wanted to turn it on..how would i do that? look at those 2 pics. theres a direct3d section and the opengl section. do i turn it on in both sections or 1 of them?

BF2 is a DirectX game so you would turn it on for DirectX. You could turn it on in both and OpenGL games would also have vsync On.

so if i turn vsync on for both options nothing bad will happen right?..dont wanna mess anything up,lol

btw i play all games on 1280x1024 with 75refreshrate meaning bf2 and fear

It shouldn't cause any problems. You should just turn it on and see how it affects teh game, if it makes it worse, then you can just turn it off again. I use v-sync for cs:s because the frame rate would go higher than my monitor can use so teh screen would tear which is pretty distracting. V-sync makes the game run alot smoother and it doesn't tear anymore, fair enough it limits my fps to 60 but it doesn't go below that so the game runs pretty good.

I'm pretty sure that there's an option in almost every game for vsync.

Yeh or you could just tell teh control center to turn it on all the time regardless of the application's preference.

Vsynch always kills my performance.
If you are not able to hit 60FPS (or whatever your refreshrate is) then I wouldn't have Vsync on. It would put you at 30FPS (to stay in sync) since you can't hit the 60.
