... has anyone had any experience with one of these? I just ordered one from dabs.com/uk for about 40 quid, which was the cheapest wacom tablet I could find.

It does come with a mouse, which I know for def will be getting put in the drawer, but below is a pic of what I've ordered without a mouse.

well its Wacom so it should be ok, but I wouldn't expect miracles from it.

So long as its got pressure levels and is comfortable to use then it should be fine. £40 ain't that bad neither.

512 pressure levels on the pen.

My main concern is how well you can draw with it. Stupidly when I first learnt about graphics tablets I went out and bought a 'Trust' tablet and everything I drew with it... well, its hard to explain in text, but it felt like an after thought, like my hand was tripping on LSD or something.

The lag from that pen was awful basically, so I took it back the same day I bought it. I hope the wacom tablet isnt the same.

my friends got one and its a bit meh [well hes a crap drawer and wouldnt let me use it so i dont know properly] but on the whole its alright

but is the speed of the pen's movement real time? thats basically all I wanna know. I know the 'graphire2' is and thats only a tenner more, but dabs dont have them in stock.

yeah I had lag on mine, was awful. I got a USB hub with external power supply, ran it through that and seems to have fixed the lag, been fine since *touch wood*

512 levels is fine, granted the expensive ones have more but you probably wont even notice the difference in practice few people do. I think mine is 512, maybe less and I've never had a problem with it or wished there were more levels or tilt features or other funky stuff.. Still gonna save up for a top of the line Wacom though, it has to be done :)

I think that was the problem with it yeah,, not enough power for it (old PC) quite a lot sharing power at once something was bound to struggle and being a pointing device it became more noticable with the pen than the scanner or something
