I think we might not actualy get a realse date to the game is gold as they would be very reluctent to miss another deadline. So do you recon that when they make an anounment it will be "out next week" I certainly hope so.

well, i sure hope they do that................i hope they do that tomorrow..... :naughty:

Release Dates are so overated lol, i just think that a game is done when its done, there shouldn't be no release date it should be like u say out next week, not out Q4 2006 lol ya know, and as they making it them self they can miss deadlines and they dont have other people who putting money in to it going '' put it out now or we drop the game '' so just wait innit, it'll be out this year, weather now, or at the end of the year, its going to be a stunning game, it should be worth the wait.

congratulations bro.

There will be a few weeks for pre-loading before the game comes out.

There willl be gone gold announcement and usually come with solid/retail release date.

The release dates so far (last september and this summer) only targeted release date, nothing solid. But since many reported the game already near beta stage (the very last bugs fixing stage as Valve said), the announcement won't be very far away now.

Here's the recent replay from Valve in the Q & A thread:

...There's alpha and beta phases in most projects. Where one ends and
the other starts is different for every company. Beta for us is the
very last stage of development, with final polishing and minor tweaks
taking place so it doesn't necessarily have to be a long drawn out
process.

good call. we know theyll have at least a few weeks for pre-loading. think about how crazy these forums will be once we actually see HL2 loading on to our systems. i just thought of something. could i allow HL2 to pre-load, and then come home from the game store with my collectors edition and simply punch in the cd key? that would save time and get me into the game faster.

Yes, that would work, but I'm steering clear of Steam for HL2 single player when I first get it, then I'll venture onto Steam for multiplayer/patches

Mayb hl2 will be avalible on steam for download as soon as it goes gold ? so those who buy it over steam can start playing the game sooner then those who buy it. I do think it will be release on steam a day or two before the physical CD version so they can get some people to start buying stuff on steam.

Valve have been very firm that it will be a unified retail/Steam release.

Valve have been very clear about alot of things (September last year, SDK before E3, release date at E3, etc....) but personally I think they would be insane not to release on steam at least a couple of days before the stores get the game.

On a side note, does anyone here know how it will work with Steam? Like, for example, I have the ATI coupon, which I've already entered into Steam, so will the game preload a couple of weeks before release and then just activate at release?

For some reason, your username reminds me of Buck the ****er from 'Kill Bill'.

I think, it will say "HL2 is ready for preloading" and starts with the job ;)
And when it's "showtime" HL2 will be unlocked and the other games playable due to the voucher-code, will be locked again.

Why?
10char si teh ghey

Because Steam is where the real profit is for Valve, and let's face it, alot of people are just gonig to go with the whichever method of buying the game comes earliest.

Not really, I'm going to buy the game on the method that suites me most; most like buying it retail with the box.
