its still an upgrade from what was in the last ibook run. but you would be hard pressed to find a decent laptop in canada for that price with a dedicated video card.

those are the tx series you are talking about gegam

i use it at my work place, nice little unit, not very durable though, but light, and also has a linux preboot to watch videos and pictures off a camera card like the toshiba qosmios. runs on the slow side though.

and that price is also canadian. if your looking for something around that line, but want more duribilty, look at panasonic.

My friend bought one of those. He loves his laptop. Takes it everywhere wth him , seems that way anyway. Although he bought it as an open box item and last years model (his did not have builtin bluetooth) so it was pretty inexpensive compared to what the new ones are. =p

best time to buy a mac is right after the next mac has been announced ..usually right after Macexpo ..which I think runs 4 times a year

I've heard of some complaints about the glossy screen for the macbook ...makes it tough to see anything in any sort of light

no, not really, right now would be the best tiem to buy the older g4 ibook. i dont expect another macbook for another 6 months, being newer mac book pro's.

apple usually updates their products 8-13 months after release

Some users are reporting that the matte black finish has begun peeling and flaking off on their new MacBooks

Users looking to get their hands on the new matte black MacBook might be in for an unwelcome surprise. It seems that the matte finish on the notebooks is extremely fragile and can be easily damaged. The problem surfaced less than 24 hours after Apple unveiled the new MacBook.

Some users report that the matte black coating on their new MacBook is rather fragile and has begun peeling and flaking off leaving the undercoat exposed. We are not sure yet if the problem is widespread or only occurring on a limited number of black MacBooks but we are looking in to it. Some users may remember that Apple had a similar problem with the black iPod nano being scratch prone. Apple addressed that problem by adding a small lip around the edge of the nano to protect the face of the device.

Some other common complaints that new MacBook owners have are with the keyboard and with the XBrite screen. Users are having issues typing on the new keyboard design and are complaining about the lack of key travel when typing. They are also unimpressed with the new Xbrite displays finding it hard to see the screen while using the MacBook outdoors and other less then optimal lighting conditions.

You might want to wait and see if any problems with the laptop turn up before purchasing one.

Yeah that is why they are on the consumer notebooks. I know a lot of guys who do photo editing perfer not having glossy screens. It makes the image look 'better' or like it has more contrast but glossy screens are not on business or higher end laptops/LCDs. If I had the choice I probably would not want it on there although I probably wouldn't mind it that much either.

The basic model's price and hardware is awesome IMO. Great small notebook perfect for just about anything except games beyond World of Warcraft. =p
Even though the intergrated gfx could have been better (ATI/Nvidia), their choice helps keep the unit's size and power lower. And I'd go with white anyway.

Does anyone have high-resolution screens of the white macbook from alot of different angles? Weird question I know, but I'm considering picking up the white 2.0GHz model with 1gig of ram. Dual boot Mac OS X and Gentoo on it, won't that be awesome!? ;)
