Anyone want to help me out here? I'm on 112k, and I want to buy HL2 over steam, but I just don't want to pre-load all of HL2. I've already pre-loaded CS:S, but HL2 is just too much. What I want is for someone to burn me a DVD with the pre-load on it, and I would pay for everything.

Just FYI, you would be helping valve out for doing this also :p :dork:

I don't know how legal this would be. You would need to read the steam end user agreement to see what their view is on distribution.

Wow that would be a great way to make some money on the side, set up a DVD burning HL2 business, sell and ship the copies for a small fee ~$5. I wonder if that would be legal to sell burnt DVD copies of HL2 gcf files, or would you have to make no profit? Pity I don't have a DVD burner and I don't like in the USA or UK.

Actually I would only charge him for the postage. And Valve have said numurous times that you can share the cache seeing as it is authenticated on Steam anyway!

Yep,
Valve said its legal.

Mattgirv, where do you live? PM me or AIM me (TrUPaintballer1) with info if you would be willing to set something up. Im in upstate NY, USA.

Or if anyone is closer to mattgirv, gimma a PM or AIM me.

probably cost about $4 - $8 to send a dvd to the US.

Selling the gcf files is illegal, but sharing them is very neutral.

If you charge for postage thats fine of course, put what about handling?

You could basically sell the files and say you were giving them away for free and just charged shipping and handling!

What a nice community. Threads like these put a smile on my face. :)

You could only charge as much as people are willing to pay for something they can download for free! That said, you could go on eBay and sell it as a copy of Half Life 2 but neglect to point out that they have to pay to get it unlocked over steam!

Just run it in the background.

It will take 2 weeks but you don't need to watch it.

That's what I would do. Chris_D downloaded all of CS:S on a 56k, if I recall correctly.

As long as you don't get paid for the content you should be ok.

Just pre-load as much as you can - you don't need the entire cache to start playing.

Pfft, before I got ADSL on the 2nd of September, I downloaded CSS beta, and HL2 preloads that were available at the time. The trick is to leave it on overnight.

I did download all of CS:S already, I just dont want to mess around with downloading it all the time. I would rather just get a burnt DVD and be done with it. When I'm downloading, I can't play anything online :p

Plus I don't have a DVD burner yet, and I would like to have a backup on DVD.

paintballer pm me, or leave a message. i'll send it dude. just tell me what to burn.
