thats right, after the closed beta (to subscribers only) on fileplanet, now theyve opened the open beta (to anybody)! But theres not many spaces left so go to www.fileplanet.com to get your key before they all run out.

seriously this game is very promising. Ive played it for a while, and it plays like any other RTS (namely Warcraft and C+C generals combined) but theres some really cool features, like the ability to paint your army.

naw having played WH40k myself, i know that this game is VERY true to the desktop game, and any fans should definately give it a go. i mean, its free, so why not?

by the way, the open beta allows you to play online with any army, and play a tutorial. i havent played online, but ill keep you posted on what its like (if the keys run out, and if anyone actually cares :|)
 
I got the code, but there's an hour long queue. Looks pretty good.
I have a friend who's into Warhammer so I'll finally be able to talk to him about that sort of stuff.

Do you know how big the download will be?
 
the file is 600 mb. IMO you should start to que :p
 
Yeah. Queue's gone down to 40 minutes. People seem to be leaving for some reason.

Right. Gonna leave that going in the background and hope my PC doesn't get knocked offline by the lightning.
 
I care. I've only played the Tutorial. Going to try to play online tonight.

What I've seen looks class though.

you have to be a paying subscriber to fileplanet for this right?
 
Nope. Just a regular subscriber like for all their downloads. There are only a limited number of keys though and it's first-come first-served.
 
Yeah, ive been playing this online all morning, loads of fun and very chaotic, as well as great graphics.

don't worry thehunter1320, i reckon i'll be pretty crappy too. i'm pretty decent at Medieval because it's a slow tactical game. this looks like fast paced heart pumping stuff, i'll feel lost :(

looking forward to it though ;)
 
Yeah, im not too good at this game but its fun palying with other people ina team, one thing i do love is that when you get 2 huge groups to fight each other the battles are amazingly chaotic and bloody
 
Fileplanet is a bitch.

I start downloading, and the entire internet seems to be down!

yeah i had to wait over an hour and a half to start downlaoding it, then i had to wait 2 more hours cause the file was 600 megs
 
So after I get the key I go back and go to the download?

This seems too easy to be true....Damn them and their good will! Seriously if this isn't what I expect

Heh, the line on the UK server is over a hundred minutes. The dedicated server is 64 minutes. However, the UK one is really really fast for me when I do finally get past the line.

Anyone else who's rubbish want to get to together to play a game? I don't want to jump into a game with someone who's better than me.

Sure...Although I havent yet got to the downloading part of the game so I might be a while.

Dedalus, I think I'm probably the same as I play Medieval: Total War...Having said that I also play Zero Hour and I used to play Starcraft all the time.

hey sparrow, you play zero hour? wanna play a game sometime, i play it qute a lot. I think ive played about 200-300 games online of zero hour and the origonal combined. ive recently started a new account, where i have 8 wins 0 losses and 3 disconnects.

But im not as good as my score, its just coz i play no rush games all the time. im really good at no rush, but no rules is where i kinda slip up... so im a bit like you guys, slow but steady ;)

i also like warcraft 3, though im pretty shit at that. Im ok against bots but i hate online because everyone has these tactics of how to kill you as quick as possible before you have a chance to think... and although its good for getting score, i find it really boring.

I ahve to say, since setting up my new account I don't play against people...well...Ever, I usaually play me and someone else agian the computer on a custom map or even those maps akin to the Starcraft Art Of Defense maps.

I don't think I've played as many games as you, probably only about 100, 40 of those would be against people. I can paly rush games quite well, I jsut don't enjoy them in the slightest because there is no chance to really get the most out of the game. ItsI like to mess around...Not so much as role playing but instead of really playing to win I like to be a bit more theatrical about it and play fun games where things are more light hearted. When you get these die ahrd people who jsut want to boost their score, I just don't enjoy it. Thats why I'm turned off by most clans in games.
 
I only play 2v2s, i like to side with people rather than being on my own, and yet 3v3s and 4v4s allways take to long and are more likely to have disconnection problems.

whats your favorite general? mines (ironically) demolition gen (i.e. everythings a suicide bomber) :)

still, im allways willing for a game, if you want to play a game (against bots or humans) you can allways message me. Anyone else have zero hour here?

oh my got i cant stop thinking about salad fingers.

I am the only one who sees the resemblance about the way Salad Fingers and the G-Man talk? Particularly in the first salad fingers.

yeah that'd be a good idea. i'm Dedalus on xfire, and Dedalus on the warhammer forums. won't be around much tomorrow or thursday though.



i used to love playing Generals online. there was this one map where it was 2v2, and it was on a beach. 2 people were on the hill and 2 were on the beach. i played with a group of mates and we decided to do infantry only. man that was the best game of Generals i have ever played! seriously, it was so much fun the government is about to put a tax on it.

also, if you want to do a vs game against a human opponent, but don't want the score to count, you can just add an AI on normal and stick them in the far corner, and just label them as 'fair game'.
 
I think you can opt to not record the stats...Although I tihnk that just doesn't record them on an overall board not your persoanl score.


Anyway, my facourite general....Hmm. I'm not sure really, it depends. The easiest one to play with against the computer is laser but I'm bored of that precisely because its easy. I quite like the nuke general and the tank general thought. I like my own maps where I get to mix and match though :D
 
Ahhh! Damn pop up opened in the window and when I went back it started it from 0% again.....That is the only thing I hate about the fileplanet download.

I was really looking forward to playing it and now I have to wait another 3 hours.

Edit: I just noticed the cache from before is still in my download file, any way I can get that restarted?

Edit2: Marvelous...I closed the window by accident and now when I try to download it agian, it just says "Failed to start download" Looks like I can't get this thing after all...
 
They renamed the file sometime today.

Long story short....I got to 80%. My internet crapped out. I go to restart the download figuring it would pick up where it left off like it usually does.....only to find they CHANGED THE ****ING FILE NAME!
 
Now I have to wait in line for 90 minutes....90 minutes! before it will start agian. I'm probably going to up and about before it finnishes. (By up and about I mean awake because its 1 in the morning here)


Anyway, I'm feeling much calmer now that I've made a mark on the wall (plasterboard...I started off by hitting ym desk but thats made of very hard wood, so I decided that even though I'm angry, I want to keep my knuckles intact to play games.)

I tried renaming that file to the new name, but it doesn't like it which is why I had to go back in line.
 
Can't wait to play this game.

20 mins ain't a bad wait.
