I shot down the idea of buying farcry, and from the reviews, and the demo i played, DOW looks awesome, should i spend my $$$ on this? There is an EB down the street and i could get it for 50$$ but thats a lot! Is the SP and MP worth 50$?

I've got it...yes its worth every penny. Not sure about the multiplayer because i have'nt played it yet but the SP is amazing. If you liked warcraft3 then you'll like this, its set in the future but even though you have plasma upgrades and stuff all the characters seem back dated to warcraft style age...its rocks though :D

Yes, Yes, and YES.

DoW is all kinds of greatness.

There's always something you can do to 'relieve that strange feeling though. :naughty:

please, explain further

I personally didn't like it a great deal.

It was missing some of the key Warhammer factions, and it got boring quite quickly.

I assume you failed to notice every mod for it? In that, every mod for it is every Warhammer 40k Race that got left out.

I don't expect to have to get a mod just to play races the developers should have added anyway.

It is just not to add stuff reclessly.

Consider the amount of work it takes to develope just the art for each species. And QA costs increase exponentially (the more factions the more possible inbalances and bugs).

And I have not even mentioned programming the unit abilitys.

4 races is enough for a RTS, if you are lucky one or two more will be added in expansion(s).

Well I played the beta quite alot, and i'm not bored of it. I'm going to buy it, and for anybody in the UK who wants to know where to get it cheap (where i'm getting it) www.play.com :)

£17.99 including delivery, not bad huh?
(EUR 28.99)

As has been said, it seems to already have a thriving mod scene, infact I downloaded some mods for the DEMO. :smoking:

I got it today and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. However it will annoy 40k purists, not because of the ommiting of recognised factions but because of some of the unit discrepancies; not so much balance, as the fact that Chaos doesn't have Terminators or Dreadnoughts of their own :(

The Imperial Dreadnoughts alone, mind, made me glad I bought this game. STOMP STOMP STOMP SPLAT CRUSH THROW STOMP STOMP BURN STOMP STOMP MISSION SUCCESSFUL. Damn powerful.

It is a lot like a better-looking Warcraft 3, but that is a) not entirely a bad thing and b) ironic because I've always thought Warcraft was so similar to the original Warhammer...

The dreadnought's are'nt that tough afterall...i don't want to spoil anything but when i first got one i thought "My god, ive beat the game with these!!" ...however, they go down like a sack of shit on the level after against this certain enemy :p

They're not a Multipurpose Tool. Although, they were built like shit brick houses in the Beta. They've sadly been significantly nerfed since. Killa Cans rip them to peices in an instant.

When I played a modded demo as orcs I had great trouble dealing with dreads. They ate throught my Tankbuztaz like rats eats through cheese.

A tactic I found usefull though was to great lots of shoota buy squads and arm them with rokkit launchas. I sent my tankbuztaz in as a meatshield and had the shoota boyz support them with rockets.

Im sry but how is $50 a lot for a game? Im just wondering because when people say stuff like that it makes me worried. $50 is cheap for a game think of the experience while playing the game the fun you have for that time. Its worth my 50 or how ever much the developers want to charge.

I mean think about it. It takes YEARS to make games and people go around saying this game is to much etc etc. It really upsets me. Another thing is you really need to stop deciding you should buy a game or not just by asking a few people are reading some reviews (which are some random people also). Just buy the game i bet that 75% of the games you let down you would have liked if you bought. But you didnt because you read some random bad review. I dont trust anyone or any reviews. I buy almost any game that just looks cool or has a cool screenshot. Even if the demo is bad i still buy it. A demo doesnt show the full potential for a game. You need to take more risks, I took a risk while buying Deus Ex (i didnt know anything about the game) (The cover looked cool) and it turned out to be the best game i have ever played. Same happened with Myst (All 3) I hated the game when i 1st played it but the other day im like whatever let me buy it and give it another try, guess what i liked it. Just seriously give games more of a chance take lots of risk and im sure you will be a happier gamer. If money is your problem just save up for anything that catches your eye, manage your money correctly.

Who agrees?

I understand your point of view and where your coming from, but I don't really agree with you. Most people want to be smart with their money because of the simple fact that they don't have a lot of it to just buy random games that look nice. You should ask people if games are any good, read reviews, play demos, etc. Thats the only way your gonna know a Half-Life from a Soldner. Your basically saying that we should just buy a lot of games and we will probably get lucky? Can I have some money then? You obviously have an abundance of it.

Well, duh! I mean, the reason you read reviews and play demos in the first place is to help you form your opinion.

Doe DoW include a real nice editor?
I mean one that matchs Wc3's. Cuz i just love Wc3's editor...ecspeically when i extend it with WEU :). The joy of even bigger maps :).

See but with me the % it effects me from buying the game or not is very little.

Ok, i got it and im playing it, like 3 missions in, and its flipping sweet, huge battles, huge maps, huge missions, awesome

Everyone buy this game. The tanks are the size of small houses! What more do you want?

The games great. Nuff said. You can't compare Rome:TW with DoW.. they are too different. R:Tw is much slower paced and it's just not to be compared.

Ressurecting an aging thread! Aren't I rebellious?!

Well, for the last three nights I've been playing it online; and a few lobby issues aside it's brilliant. They recently fixed the stupidly overlooked bug whereby one country's version couldn't connect to that of another, and despite bizzare bugs and an annoyingly vague automatcher (I think it would benefit from a few more options and the ability to view waiting automatches) I've enjoyed every moment. It's surprisingly easy on the ol' modem- admittedly I set my details to medium and play at 800*600, but it still looks awesome.

We really need to get some of the more bandwidth-hoarding types on the board to host the odd game :imu: :naughty:
