Please corret me if im wrong on this, but its bugging me now.

1.Hl2 release date was sept 11th

So how does this work, they cut multiple thousands of copies on say 9th 10th, and ship them around the world.
I mean release date was 11th ie:box on shelf with disk in ya?

2.Hl2 release date put back 1 week before 11th (back to whenever:(

They must have had many boxed hl2's ready to go. So they must have recalled them due to the obvious. At what cost? and how many ?

Or does the game industry work in another way come release dates ?
There must be a certain time before a release date that they say ok print
and ship em guys.

Please explain.......

1) Your wrong Sept 30th was the original target date 9/11 is when they were hacked. Also the date was never confirmed and the product was not completed in time to ship.

They had nothing ready because nothing was sent to duplication because nothing was finished.

Please spend some time in some other threads or in the news section of the board if you want more details.

yup your right (got 9/11 on the brain soz)
ok 30th

so back to original questioning was it or not ?

ie: cut n print on say 28th 29th? is this how it works
last minute rush or.............what

supposedly they could have gotten it shipped in a week or so, but when they had not said anything a week prior to the 30th about it going gold (which meant it was finished) we knew something was up. by that time we assumed it was not comming out the 30th, and about then valve said it would be pushed back till the holidays.

on sept 30th gabe went to alcatraz for the radeon xt release party, but did not disclose the information that it had been hacked/stolen

on oct 1 (2?) pictures started appearing of the source code. once more info got out valve made a statement since they were no longer able to hide what had happened.

mmm good point
I mean to ship a game in a week worldwide must take crackerjack timing.
Appen we may never find out.
Most things in this world are speculation, rumour, guesswork.
Never believe everthing you read or hear........

It wasn't going to ship, it wasn't ready, they have told us that much. When it is ready they will distribute fairly quickly as you can see how the time table for Condition Zero is fairly quick I am sure that HL2 would follow a similar time table.

Perhaps the hacking busniess gave them a thought to release it on the 5th anniversary of HL1?

Perhaps they will release it when it is actually finished.

Maybe they can learn from there mistakes and release hl2 when hl3 is finished. :cheese:

Now that the leak information is out in the open, was this the reason for the delay?

We simply aren't finished. It's a very large project.

Hi Mr. Newell,

I am like many in the community very exited about hl2 and its delay.
So here my question:
What are you currently doing on the game causing the delay,
or isn't it the game but anything else?

Thanks. Although not 100% correct? I mean you do know I have to question it. I am not suggesting you fabricated it but it means nothing to me unless it can be "proven". ESPECIALLY with all the other he said she said crap going on. I hope you understand.

There is a thread stickied at the top of this forum that consists of only replies from Valve employees.

If you want to question the accuracy of the threads you should probably PM a moderator but I think they double check the IP address to insure they are coming from the Valve servers.

I think they had the game ready to ship but aliens came down from outer space and objected to the way they were being portrayed. Hence to avoid an interstellar war of unbelievable magnitude they've had to spend more time taking out all references to aliens being "evil", "bad", "deadly", etc. Naturally this may afftect the game somewhat....

A holiday release wouldve been more lucrative for Vivendi...so I assumed it would end up a november release no matter what.

I dont honeslty think it was ready for release on sept 30th anyway. I think all the code and resources were done, Ithink they still had to tie up loose ands and fix some smaller bugs. I also think Steam turned out to be more of a problem than they expected too...and I dont think steam was ready to distribute HL2 or for the influx of new users. Just speculation tho.

All in all I think before the theft, the game could have made an october release, but would choose a mid november release, only because holiday releases make a significant amount more than non-holiday. Gamers and fans would get it no matter when it comes out, but the mainstream consumer market is morelikely to make a holiday purchase then not, and its best to have alot of "fresh hype" around black Friday.

:sniper:

I think that they should have the game out by xmas. The beta is obviously a pre-E3 version of the game which bears no relation to the vids and pics we have seen since E3 from valve.

The fact that we haven't heard much/squat from valve should be taken as a good sign as they are working thir little socks off trying to get the game ready for the shops in time for the Xmas rush and to maximise profits. Fingers crossed
