There was a very short silient update for CSS that i just got. I think it came out in the middle of the night and i just didnt get it till now because i was working on linux all night long. Anyway I think this was VAC2, i am not for sure but it fits soo perfectly. This does not mean that we will see a huge burst of people coming on to the forums saying that they were banned today. But if it is VAC2, I think it is just staking out right now seeing what are the hacks and who is useing them.

Well VAC 2 has been released (They're monitoring everyone). But no servers are secure yet, so there's no point. No one's going to get banned until the full release that's soon.

Hmm sorry must have missed that post. So i bet that was VAC2 or some sort of update for it. Do you know when it was released?

Hey is VAC2 for non-source valve games too? CS1.6/DoD? just curious...

It's not VAC2, it's just VAC. It has been installed, it's not enabled yet, however. If you check your steam settings, you can also see your VAC status.

VAC2 is for all steam games. VAC is a continuing Anti-cheat detection for the back catalogue. But I bet it'll be updated a bit when VAC2 is released.

Thats kind of scary, thats why I always tell everyone that Steam is the first spyware to get away with what it independantly does without being classified as spyware.

I couldn't disagree with you more. According to your idea of what spyware really is, one could classify their virusscanner as spyware as well.

Um, no. Because you install your virus scanner, you know it's there, and what it's doing.

You start CS:S, it downloads and installs a load of stuff, all of a sudden there's something monitoring you that you don't know about.

Nothing against VAC though - I hate cheaters. I'd just be happier if it was something you had to explicitly give agreement to before it was installed.

*points @ license agreement*

You installed it and accepted that Valve had the right to do this... So stfu about steam being spyware.

Yes, you agreed to installing it and such. Hardly anyone reads it though, so you all complain that it's doing it without your permission

It is only monitoring Cs:S and values for it that is all it is monitoring. You could go download a 1,000 hacks and never play a game and Steam wouldn't ban you. If it detected you hacking while you were playing it would then ban you.

You get my point? All VAC(Current) technically does is check if values are out of bounds and if they are enough times it will eventually ban you. VAC is intergreated within Cs:S and HL2 and Steam.

I mean Sites all the time are storing and getting information on your computer. Should sites that use Cookies by Classifed as Spyware Sites? Hell no, all they are is storing usefull information for auto-logging-in, loggin into sites, etc..

Enough about VAC2 it's coming and it's needed, if only to reduce the number of peeps accusing me of cheating recently....honestly one guy was gonna start demoing me the other day- and I was was all like- well could you email it to me please I'd love a promo demo of my killing spree :E , that and the fact that I went to peices a few rounds later must of convinced them not to bother with the demo :frown:

Anyway back to the original question, the small update was a few bits and bobs for the SDK- check out the news section at steampowered.com
