Was Valve aware that the computers are old?

If you look at the computers in this Picture the computer are old school, The monitors look like a 94 modal I had back in the day, and for a story that is based in the future they're computers look a lot like ours.... :p

It's not necessarily based in the future. Look at the cars and everything else. HL1 wasn't based in the future.

They prolly have to use old equipment cause there is no new equipment. The combine control everything so i am sure that if you would want a state of the art machine you ll have to ask them. They cant ask them so they work with old crap :p

easy

btw in my country you are what we call a musquito pisser
(you make big things out of nothing :p)

Who's to say that a monitor won't look the same in the future? There'll still be CRTs around, probably for a long time. Why enhance something that works?

People are swarming towards LCDs, true. But really, this is nit-picking. "That manipulator gun is an impossibility..." "Aliens don't exist..." etc. Makes me laugh.

Thats just case modding in the future.. making it look like a old computer from before 2000 :)

It looks like my brother's 2yr old MAG monitor. hehe

Although old monitors are still around working and not having access to the newest stuff you use what you can find.
I have a 14" IBM monitor sitting next to me that is pretty old.

monitor <> computer speed

Well if they made it look new and shiny and weird, nobody would recognise it for what it was. Also it saves thinking time - what will computers look like in the future anyway?

do you know that for a fact ? , the universe is a very big place , have you searched it ? :p

HAHA I didn't mean to be picky, i was just saying they look like ours, and I didn't know it wasn't based in the future...i played Half Life and everything look pretty futuristic so..., anyways...I still think it funny.

Not like ours :p

i heard that gaming is better on a crt anyways (cant remember the source)

They are, they're responce time is hardly noticeable(0.5ms??) while LCD has responce time of .25ms

I think the only reason the monitor looks old is because that scientist (forgot name :p) is part of the rebelion. So I guess they only have lower tech stuff insted of more high tech things.

Since the universe is infinite, everything that can happen, does in fact happen, an infinite amount of time, therefore there are inifinite planets with life on them :p

The humans are on the run, so they have to scavenge whatever equipment they can find. It's much easier to get your hands on an old cheap monitor than a new flat plasma.

like it matters?? urm. didnt really notic tbh m8. Ah well..

urr.. nice find o_0

Yeah. Since they are part of the rebellion, they probably started with nothing...so they had to scavenge for their resources. Judging by that tank of orange goo in the background, the computer systems and such...they seem to have done a good a good job

YES IT IS!

Gordon was unconcious for several years, nearly a decade actually. Thus HL2 is based nearly 10 years in the future.

YOU IDIOT!!!!I WAS WAIT FOR THE GAME TO FIND THIS OUT!!! :frown:

Space is infinite, but there is not an infinite amount of matter in it.

Yes, they have a better refresh rate, which makes them better for gaming. So I am told.

[SARCASM]Of course, since you played the game, you must know. How could I have forgotten? [/SARCASM]

Look at the cars and the buildings, HL2 is not "necessarily" based in the future. (could be, but we really don't know right now)

They are "better" for gaming. However, the difference between a good response time lcd and a crt monitor is negligeable.

Lol but the price.... :afro:

The universe is infinite, but not every planet in inhabited so there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero, then the entire population of the universe can also be said to be zero and any people you may meet from time to time are just products of a deranged imagination

hl1 takes place in the future, or it did when it came out

You have way too much time to think buddy, lol

It takes place in the "near" future, which wouldn't be so insanely different than the present.

I personly don't care when it's based I just want to rip interdenominational aliens to shreds...Oh and the computer thing is still funny cause if you look in the background they have this really cool computer :p

you are all wrong. lcds exist (check your screenshots before you post) but kleiner just digs the refresh rate of those bitchin' crts.

the lcds just don't cut it refresh rate wise. 16ms just aren't enough for HL2..

proof below

HAHA it doesn't change the fact that he is using an old CRT while the LCD is doing nothing...shows which one last longer :p
