Has anyone seen these stupid commercials?

They have a nice looking young african american male. He's talking about the qualities of this banking thing, wamu free or something. And there are these guys in business suits, all white, all old, and all greedy bankers. And they have this guy talking to the old guys and they're all basically foaming at the mouth, and caged.

What kind of message is this trying to send anyways? Reverse racism is still racism.

I don't know about you, but caged elderly white folk have been swindling me out of money for years.

Eh I'd seen those commercials dozens of time and I never really associated race in the least until this thread. I think it just happens that the 'hip young guy' is black.

I'm sure the "old fogey white guys" are meant to be "old fogey white guys though" but it's not meant to be racist, it's meant to be a living stereotype.

Like how they're running on a treadmill and all winded and they get a champaigne break and they talk in posh accents and such.

Would it have been so hard to incorporate at least a few people of different races into the mix? I mean there were at least 20 old white guys there.

Heh. found this blog talking about it too, I guess.

Hackles Raised

Why is Washington Mutual airing commercials depicting a penned-in herd of "old white guy" bankers being baited by a young African-American actor in a blue polo shirt? Has anyone seen these? They've been airing rather frequently during CBS's NCAA Tournament coverage.

They propose an idea to the "old white guys." If the "old white guys" object, then the idea must be good, and Washington Mutual will then offer it to the public, who will then undoubtedly benefit. Because, after all, "old white guys" are all out to screw the general public every chance they get.

I'm hardly someone who's ever been inclined to bemoan reverse racism, but I'm actually finding myself vaguely offended by this ad campaign.

I think it'd have been retarded if they went out of their way to do that. In fact I don't think anyone would have thought of it as racial in the least if the young hip guy was a white guy too. It's not trying to say "white people above 65 are horrible and lame" it's trying to say "Rich, stereotypical MONOPOLY MAN type guys aren't cool cats"

Try not thinking about it racially and it's not racism!
