WATCHMEN cast!

all unknowns ..could be a bad sign
Would you rather have a big name actor doing the same schtick we've seen them do over and over on the big screen?

And they're not all unknowns, not in the slightest.

EDIT: Hell, Billy Crudup was in MI:3 for christ's sake, Malin Ackerman is coming out in a new Ben Stiller Comedy, Patrick Wilson was in Hard Candy, and Matthew Goode was just in The lookout.

no but I'd like to have some assurances that these people can actually act ..all I'm seeing is pretty faces

ok fair enough, B actors and supporting bit players ..not name draws

supporting actors at best ..never even heard of the lead actor ..which is understandable because:

he was best known for his portrayal of Kelly Leak, the motorcycle-riding, cigarette-smoking little leaguer in The Bad News Bears and its sequels.

....the bad news bears ...

Pretty good, but Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan? I thought they were just gonna CGI him.

Good god they're nobodies. The only one I recognise is Malin Akerman who gets her tits out in American Pie-esque movies.

Stinks of low budget. Snyder got $65mil to make 300 so hopefully he can scrape together at least that amount to finance it.

I have no faith in any trite shit Hollywood puts out anymore. For Watchmen I would have prefered an HBO series with a more mature director. I have only seen Snyder do action and Watchmen is not an action story.

Everything in movies is being ruined. Trailers spoil everything, the comedy genre is pretty much dead, and horror movies are rated PG-13.

I will wait until this god-damned comes out before I mock it and spit on its corpse.

Until then, I sit here and wait.

I say give it a chance. It has potential. Besides, it may actually get people to read the graphic novel, which would be good.

sure I'll give it a chance but judging from it's pedigree (all untested, no real stand out creatively) I say it has a slim chance at best of being all that faithful to the series ...a big budget/name could have meant the studios would have taken a chance with a movie that's based on a comic book series but doesnt have much in the way of action, the name draw alone would be enough to draw a big audience ..without name recognition they only have the strength of the work to go on, meaning they'll have to throw in big action set pieces in order to draw in the numbers

I'm not being a "negative nancy" I'm just being realistic

Wasn't the fellow playing Rorschach nominated for an Oscare for his role in Little Children? I've never seen it, but several people I know have and they say he gave the best performance in the film.

ya for best supporting actor ..however the director may have played some part in his nomination as his movies have recieved in total 5 nominations between 2 films ...so while Haley may indeed be a good actor even good actors churn out bad roles

Haley was a child actor and hadnt done anything in 15 years prior to working on that film that got him nominated so it's still up in the air whether he can actually carry a picture

Well now's his chance to prove it. You think De Niro started out as a leading man? He was only a supporting character in Mean Streets.

he's not just starting out but has been in the business for over 30 years

Well if he knows how to act, then I see no problem. I'm still wary of Zack Snyder directing a Watchmen movie, but at least he's not rounding up a bunch of bankable actors for the sake of having bankable actors. He turned down Tom Cruise and Jude Law.

he wears a mask for the majority of the series

did he turn them down or was it scheduling conflicts? ...anyways they both wanted to play Ozymandias ..which isnt the leading character ..which is just as well as I'm no fan of Cruise ..Law would have been a good choice though ..he can act

The fact that the lead actors are "unknowns." does not, in itself, make me leary about the film. How many people knew who Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman were before their breakout roles propelled them to stardom? And those were major, big budget films they were in.

That said, I'll be amazed if the film version does justice to the comic.

they had help from established talented directors like Brian Singer and Peter Jackson ....Mark Hammil was right there with Harrison Ford they both had the same shot at stardom, in the end natuiral talent won out

He turned them down. And Ozymandias is kind of one of the important characters in the story. Doesn't matter if he isn't the leading character. Rorschach technically isn't either. All of them are the main characters.
Getting an unknown to play Rorschach actually makes a lot of sense because that's who his character is, a nobody. Someone no one cares or did care about.

And this just means less morons I'll see at the theater looking for their favorite celebrities. I'm not concerned about the choices of actors. His past movies have fine, not-so-popular actors who did well with their roles. I'm only worried about, as mentioned before, his direction style. He's only done action movies. Watchmen isn't about action. There's hardly any action.

Did you people know that Solid Snake wrote the screenplay for this movie.
Then again he also wrote the one for, X-men, X-Men 2, The Scorpion King, The Hulk( although he hated what they did to it).
So that really doesn't spell much good for this movie.

Alan Moore said Hayter's script was the closest to perfection of his comic. And many other people who've read it agree.

But, Snyder isn't using Hayter's script. Only parts of it.

They came to him, not the other way around. Jude Law's a big fan of Watchmen, he has a Rorschach tattoo.

-Sets are being built in Vancouver right now, including a New York City backlot. Not going to be 300 style, very little digital work except on Mars and in Antarctica.

-Think more SE7EN than SIN CITY in terms of production design.

-Warner Bros is behind an R-rated film.
There is a small ounce of hope.
