The script begins with a prologue about terrorists taking hostages at the Statue of Liberty during the 1976 bicentennial celebrations. Adrian Veidt (never referred to as Ozymandias) leads a superhero team actually called "The Watchmen" to stop them.

During the rescue attempt, the Comedian intentionally kills a hostage that's being used as shield by a terrorist. He quips, "The joke's on you."

urge to kill rising, RISING!!!!

actually it's from a failed movie script from the 80's

Oh lawd. At least I have a guarantee Watchmen will be better than this!

Wow, Alan Moore's a prick.

He doesn't want to support this one because there's a 98% chance that it'll rock the foundations of comic book films for years to come.

he doesnt want to support the movie because he thinks it'll be a bunch of worms (it makes sense if you read the linked interview with moore)

in other words: hollywood crap

No, no that isn't the case at all. Nor will the film do that.

You're one of those that's decided the movie's a 9/10 before you've even watched it. Congratulations.

Hey, thanks. :D
I don't even care about the movie, hell, I've never even read the comic.
I just think that from what I've seen so far that it looks awesome.

The term "Hollywood crap" (which I know isn't really a term, but whatever) is quite a close-minded thing to say. For all the shitty films, you get absolute great films as well like Lost in Translation and Batman Begins and Memento (three Hollywood films sitting on the desk next to me :p)

It's just like with computer games. The whole American games industry can't be discounted because some shitty companies bring out shitty things when there are some amazing companies doing really stellar work.

Lost in Translation is not hollywood crap ..Independence Day is. Memento is most certainly not hollywood crap, Armageddon is most certainly hollywood crap

So there isn't a team called The Watchmen in The Watchmen?

newflash: teen beaten to death for stating the obvious, ring leader goes by name of Samon, considered armed and dangerous approach at own risk

Eejit: there has never been a better fix since like forever!

I don't undertsand what's going on. I never read the comic.

This happens seventeen times.

just read this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen

the point is that the whole idea of a superhero team named the watchmen is contrary to everything the comic is about ..it's not your typical superhero movie and I kind of agree with Moore: it's unfilmable ..but most importantly it should probably never have been made into a film ..mostly because in order for it to appeal to a wide audience they would have to "hollywoodise" it to an almost unrecognisable degree

I dont have high hopes for the film to be perfectly honest ..if it even achives 10% of the greatness that is the original comic then I'll take everything I've said back but I'm not holding my breath

Seems like the ending might have been changed:

http://www.cinematical.com/2008/10/20/the-bleak-ending-of-watchmen-changed

However, in the interest of fairness to those movie-going spies, Collider's recent interview with Kevin Smith suggests the whispers might be true after all. "It's a little different. While it is a slight departure, it actually makes sense in the context of the story because it brings the characters back into it. It kind of makes the movie more about them by the end of it because of the switch they made. I would never say that Alan Moore f***ed it up or something. I love the ending of the Watchmen comic book, but I think this ending works just as well."

Yeah I read that too and well, I hope its not true. The rumors starting spreading from the IMDB boards which are as reliable as your friend at school who has an uncle who works at nintendo.

Anyway the supposed ending change is:

instead of using the giant squid thing, viedt just blows up a bunch of cities around the world and blames it on Dr. Manhattan going crazy or some shit. Thats the gist of it

I'm not, which is why im hoping its just a dirty rumor. After all the interviews about how Snyder was sticking so close to the book I dont see why they would just go and completely change the ending like that.

Edit:

**** apparently its true.

Someone on SA saw a screening of the movie and posted this:

I am going to jump all over the movie as I think of things, from reading the last five pages or so of comments. Yes, the ending was changed. There was no squid. None. Not even hinted at. Dr Manhattan was framed by Oz, and the "I did it 35 minutes ago" line is still in there. Oz uses a power similar to Dr Manhattan's to blow up like four cities. I believe that the Comedian discovered what Oz was planning to do, and that is why he was murdered. Oz has a file on how to get Dr Manhattan to leave Earth, so he can replicate his powers blowing up all the cities/people and frame him. Rorschach was awesome, as was previously stated. Lots of nude Dr Manhattan, so lots of blue wang. The scene where the Comedian dies is pretty brutal. There are some great fight scenes in this, the death of the Comedian, the attempting mugging of Nite Owl II/Silk Specter II, Rorschach brutalizing a prisoner in the cafeteria, the prison riot where Nite Owl II/Silk Specter II go to break Rorschach out, Nite Owl I getting murdered, the attempted assassination of Oz, and the final fight. Dr Manhattan leaves earth because he is tired of life there, and wants to go create life somewhere else (paraphrased). The USA/Russia are scared of Dr Manhattan because they think he blew a bunch of stuff up and work together for peace since they think he is watching. Dan and Laurie end up together, and the end of the film is a newspaper editor bemoaning the fact there is no news to report on with peace breaking out, so they go to the 'kook' file, where Rorschach's journal is.

Well, we all know Snyder has said he wants to do a 3+ hour Directors cut, with the Black Freighter and other stuff put in so maybe they'll have the original ending in that.

WE CAN ONLY HOPE.

Or maybe that ending was just a fake-out for the screening people D:

As much as I liked the original ending, and the change does seem like a bit of a pointless one, it does kind of make sense.

The US/Russians fearing Dr. Manhattan is a bit more realistic than them fearing a race of teleporting/exploding-head aliens, tbh. Maybe less awesome, but certainly plausible.
This happens seventeen times.
I ****ing guffaw'd. Hope I'm not the only one who got this. :D

no I got it too: in reference to the batman script as written by Michael Bay

Honestly, I've heard nothing but good things about the current version. I'll remain optimistic until proven otherwise.

grabbed this from LITG:

WATCHING THE ENDING

[Green Light]There have been repeated reports circulating the net regarding the ending of Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen" movie that the ending has been radically changed from the original. We’re not talking everyone wearing Rorschach’s mask or anything, but the perceived and bizarre extra-world threat of a pan dimensional Cthulhu god alien landing on New York killing millions is gone.

Or has it?

I understand that the ending people have been seeing is just one possible filmed ending. That the movie’s FX farm has already created big squid effects. And that there will be more than one ending of the film tested before general release. Expect to see all of them in the two/three disc DVD.

That new ending sounds a lot better. I always thought the end of the comic book was ****ing retarded and it marred an otherwise great read. Seriously ... it was really stupid.

This ending retains the same dramatic effect without being the most random and seriously absurd, out of left field bullshit that was the original ending.

I think the book's ending was fine in it's context and execution. But what is right for one medium is not always right for another, so I'm fine with them tweaking it. Movies have great visual impact, but they simply do not have the time to try and cram in the entire book.

I loved the books ending, it was excellent - I have absolutely no gripes with what happened and was suitably amazed.

It can still be a good film and not be 100% accurate to the book. I like the book's ending, but the movie ending seems to work as well.

I'm watching it currently, its quite brilliant.

Edit: My god... that was the best thing, I've ever seen... wow...
