Right, just got a ThermalTake Big Water cooling system for my birthday.. and I'm wondering how long does coolant last - also are there any other important details I should know besides the obvious? Can't wait to have a silent silent PC :D

Whenever it breaks, it should atleast last 1-2 years.
You have to mod your case slightly for it to fit in, though, most people say it requires very little modding.
Oh, one last important thing
Lucky you.

I have a Koolance Exos 2 and my 7800GTX idles at 30C and my CPU idles at 28C at 2.64GHz, under load my CPU never goes above 32C. The 7800 GTX doesnt go above 35 unlike my old 6800 Ultra which would idle at 40 and go up to 45 under load.

I would check the instructions on when it advices you to change the coolant. I have often thought about that myself when I was thinking of building a new water cooled pc. I'm not sure if you will need to treat the water every now and then to stop any buildup of crap inside the water blocks and in teh radiator.

The coolant is designed so there's no buildup :)

And the manual is no help whatsoever :|

I have never seen the need for an coolant-based temperature adjustment system unless you have a nuclear powered PSU.

Just keeping the case open seems to work fine.

Yeah but 15357 I want a completely silent PC, which I can overclock to hell and back :)

water cooling scares me, i'm afraid about having liquid running through my comp

IIRC Koolance recommend replacing the coolant in the EXOS about once every 12 months.

I know, a year which isn't much of a problem to me. Especially since it's all external (except the tubes) the hardest part was filling it up. But the temps are worth changing the liquid.

I remember that I used a crude homemade cooling device a few years ago. Didn't work because the water was too cold (0C ~ 5C) and it made the water 'devaporize' out of the air, causing the computer to be flooded.

That stinks. I know a guy that made a homemade water cooling system. He is using 3 radiators.

Yeah.......

Anyway, I just have 3 fans running instead of the coolant, which i'll never use again.

The poor PSU, HDD, DVD-RW......
