Way to get around work internet blocks?

First off...I'm not talking about Websense or browsing blocks. I'm talking about (what I'm guessing) port blocks. I'm at work right now on my computer. I can surf just fine but any program besides MSN messenger cannot connect to the internet.

I heard that a guy that worked here a year+ ago had a program that was an HTTP tunnel or something where they could run kazaa and anything they wanted. I've looked into some programs but they don't do the trick.

Any help?

Just know, if you have intelligent network admins, they can see what you're doing... and you could be fired. I know i've experienced some that constantly monitor employees.

There was a guy that worked here before that got Kazaa working and was using it to d/l music. Nobody cares what I do around here. This company is full of slackers.

EDIT: Does that radmin work for games too though? The connection here isn't so great. I d/l at a max of like 70KB/sec so I dunno how fluid the connection would be.

No, radmin would be no use for games, as you essentially get pictures of your home machine on your desktop, it would not update anywhere near fast enough.

What you want to do (I think) is set up a VPN to your home PC, or router. Basically, this lets your home PC or router get whatever it needs through whatever ports it wants, then send it all to you over a single port.

I was hoping there'd be a program so I could use games and trillian on my computer

I dunno if I was very clear, but I brought my tower in and just hijacked a monitor and keyboard so I'm actually on my home pc at work. I can play SP games but can't get access to the internet with many programs.

Every program that connects to another computer (i.e. the internet) uses a "port". If your internet connection was a road, a port would be a lane. Now, different programs use different ports, or lanes. What your network admins have done is block many of these lanes within your office, so no matter what program you run, data sent down these lanes will get stopped by these blocks.

Now, your home computer does not have these lanes blocked when connected through your home internet connection, so the programs that run on your home PC can access all the lanes, and therfore work properly.

A VPN (Stands for Virtual Private Network) basically means that your computer connects to your home computer through a single unblocked lane. Your home computer then takes all the data from these different lanes, which are blocked at your work, and sends it all to your work PC through a single open lane.

The upshot of this is this: You need to have your own PC at home and connected to the internet, then you need a VPN set up to connect your work PC to your home PC.

Now, I'm crap at explaining things like this, so that prob makes no sense, so feel free to ask questions about anything that reads as gibberish(TM)

I get what you mean. Let me see if I understand you.

I have my home pc sitting at home connected to the internet. All the ports it uses get bundled into one port through this VPN and connect with my work computer. So it's a different way of remote accessing my computer?

I thought that programs like this wouldn't help run games or anything.

Oh god, that reminds me of when I was in 7th grade, me and some punks would look at porn on the school computers.

Well, a week later, the computer admin dude (fat slacker who'm knew less about computers than me) had a schoolwide talk about what is and isn't appropriate content on their PC's. He said that they'd catch whoever was doing it and they'd be punished accordingly.

Well I can already get on the basic version of messenger that comes with xp but any other program gives me an error as if I don't have internet.

type the required website into www.browser-x.com i'm not sure if thats exactly what you want but it'll get you onto games sites.
