The following came to me while watching Viva La Bam .

So, as I said I was watching said show, and it was the episode when Slayer is coming over. In the end Slayer plays a small song, and it was the same guitar riff over and over with a dude shouting, and that was considered rock. Ever since Nirvana I have yet to see one band do something edgy or different, now I ask, what happened to creativity? Even bands appearing now have a CD and maybe 1 song is soft and the rest are all the same, maybe a tad faster or slower, but mainly the same. And it isn't just music, movies and TV too. There has yet to be a compelling movie this year (exclude LoTR and Shaun of the Dead) that really was worth the money I paid, I will say I have not seen many movies this year but that is because they are ALL THE SAME! Mr. 3000 for example will be very predictable, old guy comes back in, they heckle him and so on, he trains up to be stronger, ears their respect, has a sad moment/love story and ends with a big inspirational part in which he gets the *3000th hit*.

Now these problems I blame upon not one specific group, but the public that goes and supports this. Music, movies, TV have gone from being something to express thoughts on and make people happy, to whoring actors and throwing scripts out at whatever makes cash. This generation will not have a Scarface, a Casablanca, a Led Zeppelin, because of a bunch of greedy actors, musicians and anyone else who controls what we watch/listen to.

The grammar and so is pretty bad in this, the heat+anger built up kinda triggered this, also it kinda runs on, but meh.

Heh...Fight Club is your film of the day? :)

I know exactly what you are talking about though...Its just a money pit that everyone wants a piece of so its flooded with junk. Most of the more innovative films and such like are usaually the ones that don't get anywhere. People are locked into the "tried and tested" way of things, so they keep doing what has always been a sucess and they are afraid of doing anything different. Its like games...There are a alot of WW2 games because people know that it works, and its enjoyable. Ok, some of them are really great but mostly they just end up a bit samy.

Our Led Zeppelin are the likes of Justin Timberlake :x Pop dominates everything, and I include so called urban music in that now because most of what you see its just "Popular" rather than being any good.

As for films...I guess we have The Matrix (the second two were good but not...iconic :)) and the lord of the rings

.

if everyone thinks the way you do, then you are right about that statement.

I can't really see much light for creativity in movies right now. Music on the other hand is slowly growing in an underground community that produces its own music for free.

Regular people can now compose their own music and turn it into a nice sound file all on their own without the need of much money or computing power, as a result a slowly growing number of people are now producing music as a hobby. The more people producing music without the desire to sell it will eventually equal more creative and unique music for everyone. Plus it will no longer be driven by profits which leaves creativity to flourish.

show me one band thats as good as a band like led zepplin, nirvana or U2, or (early)radiohead that refuses to go commercial with their music. if you have a song like smells like teen spirit or creep, do you think you would just hold onto it? if there are songs like these out in the underground that i don't know about, i sure as hell want to see them, but i doubt there are. its easy to not sell out when you have shitty music!

its a nice thought that there are amazing bands out there as good as the forementioned, that work at shitty jobs and release their music for free, but its just not realistic.

Whoever says they don't see creativity in movies in the near future doesn't lives in Europe.

The bands we remember started something, they had a way about their art that made you remember them, you think in 30-40 years we are gonna even remember 3/4th the bands around now? Hell, I am suprised everyday by how many bands I have never heard of when I watch any music channel.

I didn't say there are any good ones yet, and its not that they refuse to go commercial as it is they are just doing it as a hobby. Eventually really good ones will start to come but for now its still a very young err... For lack of a better word, industry.

the audience are not to blame for anything. the people who control the money strings dictate what 'their audience' will like. if a creative bod thinks up something new and original, the first thing they'll think is "will my audience 'get' it?". they're stupid. and nothing can be done about it. only a few decent pieces of art filter through the layer of shit. so stay away from the mainstream and look a bit harder between the cracks in the pavement, you'll find gold hidden there.

who's the quote in your sig Dedalus?

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

when Vader faces Obi-Wan on the Death Star. Obi-Wan sees Luke running across the hanger, and seeing the moment when one action can change the mind of a young boy and the future, he takes the route of the saviour and monk, he wants to undo the bad that has happened and break the cycle, and murmurs the phrase that has billowed through time and space to this day, "If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." you can apply it to all walks of life.

sorry got a bit too 'into' that

Without Kurt, it wouldn't be the same, the Foo Fighters are good tho, Dave Grohl did a good job from jumping from Nirvana and creating something good from it.

thats not what i mean, im saying a 'nirvana' as in a new and different sound that breaks through to the mainstream while still being different..

i don't even mean another grunge movement. just something different and hopefully rock related heh.

Star Wars.

Wow, you managed to both find the source of the signature and give one of the best examples of the decline of modern cinema in only two words! :D
