350 million bitches! We win at charity! USA forever!

*plays theme song from team america world police*

(I put this here instead of politics so nobody can think I'm serious)

I think he was joking.

Although the UK has donated more in proportion to it's GNP!!!!11

[nottobetakenseriously]You still spent 1000x more on killing people in 2003/2004 :hmph: [/nottobetakenseruiously]

hah nice, damn im moving to the USA because they won the charity race :D

Our gdp is around 10 trillion USD, our defense spending is about 3.7% of that, or 370 billion.

370 billion devided by 1000 is 370 million, so we actually spent more than 1000 times that on killing people last year.

but to be fair most of that did not actually get used for killing, and we are talking about how much the US payd so far for one single disaster. Plus the total us international aide budget was about eleventy gazillion dollars last year.

Jesus, I was just looking at the defense spending durring ww2, it was 37.8% of our gdp in 1944. Imagine if we were to actually spend 3.7 trillion dollars on our militairy at this day in age. With about a 100th of that we are where we stand today... wow.

I know you're just joking, but I just want to change a little thing in case people who aren't so bright decide to take it seriously. We, the general public, don't spend that money killing people. The government does that. (See South Park episode with the pro-war and anti-war groups, and Cartman goes back in time in a coma)

actually this was the only reason they did that donation :hmph:

We always give the most, because we have to most money. but every time anyone notices they say we only did it to look good. *sigh*.

Our government had the bright idea to donate 100 million euros to Sudan, to a corrupt government in a chaotic country. And now they come up with 5 million euro for Asia, pathetic :D
Just the charity from the people alone raised more than twice that amount in a few days.

According to a newssite I know they said that according to The NY Times, Americans (must be an avarage of numbers) thought that the US spent 24% of their GDP on aid, it's actually less than a quarter of a percent. Don't quote me on that though (actually, on a forum it's kinda hard not to quote) just read it. :)

People also think we spend half out gdp on defense spending. People are morons.(mainly in california)

I don't like the way its split into 'what countries donated what amount' .... unless you donated something personally, you don't deserve to boast ... not that you should boast anyway, just give what you can afford to, and be happy that your money is going to people that need it more than you can imagine.

and they killed less than the tsunami :O not very efficient if you ask me

/non-seriousness

Moved to the flame forum.. i mean Politics forum

Oh Pulse, shorten your sig, 4 lines max.

US spend in 2004 596 billion on defense, the rest of the world put together around 500 billion.

In all seriousness nobody seems to have gotten the point of this topic.

There is no winner in charity, in a good way.

well I didn`t see any Brit or Norwegian or whatever coming to a forum and saying "Hey! We donated the most! We`re teh best!"

You're all just bitter that we win at charity. Just after we won at christmas and being humble. We win it all.

Maybe because they didn't donate the most?

Well, England won at New Years this year, beating the title holders, Australia.

Hehe, Japan wins at charity, they announced to donate 375 million euro (more than 500 million dollar) to Asia. :E

If only it were really a race, would be a positive arms race, right? The higher the better.

I don't see a problem with donating money to charity, but when America has problems funding it's schools, it's health service, police service, etc, etc, etc, etc, should they really be giving any money to anyone or fighting any wars? Or is this the root of the problem with Mr Bush?

Who gives a shit... doesnt matter how much we send.. someones gonna be bitchin' anyway.

before US "hit the record" someone else was "first" :dozey:

MONEY DOES NOT MATTER

we are sending what does, food, medicine, supplies,

yes i would rather have greenbacks instead of food after a flood

I was being semi-sarcastic. I know it's not a competetion, but hell if the competitice feeling makes nations donate more, then I'm all for it.

Sooooo true. This thread is just more evidence of that. I say we give nothing from now on and let them bitch about that instead. Why should we be nice to people who dont show us the same respect?

It IS good that you donate so much money (doh), is anyone really bitching about that? Theyre bitching about that you treat it like a contest...

I started this thread in general chat as a joke.

Generosity isn't about waving a flag
Charity isn't about "winning" or scoring points with anyone.
Likewise, you can't use charity as political leverage or whatnot.

(I know you think you made this thread as a joke, but thats an honest point)
