Weekly Photoshop Contest Discussion: Week 8

Well, being a long time member of the art forum and participant in the photoshop contest, I took it upon myself to create the photoshop contest for this week using the one idea posted in the voting thread for week 7. Thanks for the idea element. If any mods read this could you please sticky the contest? Thanks. :cheers:

Also, since I posted the contest, I took the liberty of adding a rule, hehe .

What's a smug look? Does it have something to do with mist? Like in "having a misty face"? Or is it more like "smug the crook", where if you win you look like a crook? Or is it dirt? Like "a dirty smug face"?

Well I entered something. Its not great or anything, I just came up with it last night and drew it in about an hour. If anything I will work to make a really great second one but this works for now.

I actually did this comic backwards. Not really having an idea of what to do I designed a panel layout I liked. Then I just started drawing things that worked in the panels provide and I just drew the comic. Then I had to think up text and a joke to go around what I had drawn in the panels and... well... there's my first entry.

It has some parts that need fixed (ie- his chair poking through the first panel) but this is good enough for now. I'll work on an actual "good" one later, I am already backed up with stuff to do though.

Haha, I like it insid. My only crit would be it's kinda hard to follow which frame come's next, or maybe I'm just slow . Very nice though.

Hehe. Yeah, I was just tired earlier. I took a nap and now i'm all set to go. I'm currently working on a comic too .

I will close the contest for submissions this Saturday at 10 AM Central Standard Time, and open up the poll for voting then. This will give everyone about 5 days for a submission. Voting will end Sunday Night around 10PM, and the next contest will either be put up then, or Monday morning. Remember to give me ideas!

Yeah sorry about that, I wanted only only use that Angerfire webshell for a little while until my friend uploaded the pic, but he hasnt contacted me back so I was a bit ****ed. Thanks for hosting that tim, I will try and make it so you wont have to host that any longer then needed.

On a related note, anyone know of any free webspace that allows remote linking to images?

But since no one else is caring about the contest I will just finish it at my leasure.

Hey I may make a regular thing out of it, this site may get a comic done for it each week. An official halflife2.net comic. Sounds good to me.

I give you a reason:

The contest started around tuesday or something. That's 1 day to notice, and then 3 days to make it. That's not enough. I for one need more time. I really just couldn't get around to do it. When you replied with "saturday", I saw it was saturday already, 13pm here, so I just didn't bother anymore since I probably had 1 hour left. If you agree to extend it untill saturday next week, I'll make one gladly. Or maybe just close it and make another topic. Your call.

I figured I would extend it till this morning, in case anyone wanted to submit one last night if they had nothing better to do . But I'm just going to go ahead and close the entries here in a bit and declare insid the winner, hehe. I think it would be best just to do a new topic, to keep things moving. I need an idea though, any ideas??

1. The ideas generally arent very interesting.

2. It isnt usually worth your (my) time bothering with anything (i.e. spending hours on something) because the cheesy entries usually win (and theres no prize).

3. Hardly anyone browses the Art & Design forums, they almost seem to be in the broom cupboard of the HL2 forums.

4. Voting for yourself always gets you flamed! :afro:

I'd enter if I could, but i've got no PS. I think the same could be said about a lot of people.

Maybe the contest should be generalized into all art? Or at least computer art.

It is, AFAIK you don't have to have Photoshop to enter

Are you saying the photoshop contest entries don't need to be made with photoshop at all? I'm going to check the rules over a bit more closely.

Future MechaG: Nope, there's no rule that prohibits non-PS submissions.
In that case, what is allowed? Can I submit hand-drawn stuffs?

For all that say it takes a long time to make one of those things. I made that comic in less then an hour, at 3am right before bed.

Its not that hard to just make something even if it is just a simple gag joke.
