Next week we'll begin beta testing the new Valve Anti-Cheat system. For people playing multiplayer games, there will not be any visible difference while we're conducting the beta, but we will be logging cheating violations into our database to make sure it's ready for general release. This will be the last public notice before the system is released and active for everyone.

If you have any cheats for multiplayer games installed on your computer, now would be a good time to uninstall and stop using them. When a cheat infraction is detected, the offender will be permanently banned from playing on secure servers.

In lighter news, work is progressing on Lost Coast, that is the level we've built to showcase a new piece of rendering technology coming to Source called High Dynamic Range lighting, first mentioned here. Valve's Doug Lombardi will be showing the level on G4 TV next Wednesday, March 30th. More information on the broadcast is available here.

Yippppe.

Finally, cant wait to see how many are going to be banned within the first week

Wow their even nice to warn people, if I was VALVe I wouldn't give any notice.

They uploaded something with this.... I logged into CSS and it had about 3% to download. It also said require update. What stealth patch is going in I wonder?

EDIT# just checked steam, skull fix :)

Thank god, those skulls were annoying.
And i havent actually seena hacker in source yet, supose i've been lucky. I'll be seeing even less when VAC2 comes out :p

Ren.182: Same, never saw a hacker yet.

VALVe is being extremely nice on this cheating issue. Now anyone who is caught cheating has absolutely NO excuse as VALVe has given them a week's warning. Well hopefully this will mean that those people who wanted to "try" them will now stop, hopefully forever.

Anyways good work VALVe :D

Oh and there was also a fix to CSS and the Source Engine also :)

They'll release it early i betcha, or ridiculously late to catch us all out!

Hmmmm...
/me uninstalls haxx like crazy

Hey, at least they gave us a warning, if I ran VALVe I'd just spring it on them without telling them.

We have released an update to Source Engine and Counter-Strike: Source.
Run the hldsupdatetool to get this update.

This update prevents the "te" bug for any mod and also fixes
Counter-Strike: Source crashing when bringing up the budget panel.
