Hi everybody!

I tried to fidn the answer on this at the Steam website, but I couldnt find it, so I hope you can help me.

The problem is:
I recently re-installed HL2 after a long itme with no playing. The installation goes smoothly, and I start the game just way it's supposed to. But when I step out of the train in the first Chapter; Point Insertion, that games locks up and after a few seconds, the game shuts down and I get this error:

Code:
Internal Driver Error in IDirect3dDevice9 ::Present()

That is followed by the windows error message:

Code:
hl2.exe has encountered an error and needs to be shut down

I have tried both to update my drivers for my graphics card nVidia GeForce FX5600 and to install the latest version of DirectX.

Something seems to be wrong with your Direct X. I don't know much about it though...

i got the same error message.. its weird, :S. some one help!

Give me computer or MOBO name and model, or link me to a site where you have purchased this PC, and or a pic in the web.

i dont think that a picture or anything like that would help, i dont think that you can help me, can anyone else help me please

Of course I cant help you, not with that controversy "2 CPUs" system spec, not without DX info pad, not without system name and model (Specially MOBO name, model).
I did help many before you but I can't help those who refused to help themselves.

Good Luck.

lol, well i updated my video card, and it seems to have fixed the problem.. thanks anyway

for a complete list of your computer specs, do this

start>run

type: dxdiag

This will prompt you , just click yes.

It will list all your pc info in a box. Click save info, it will export it to a txt file. Then you can post here.

Its that easy. Thanks

I'm yet another person with the same error. My HL2 does work, but crashes after 1.5-2 min. This is usually experienced as a brief lag (few frames at very low frame rate), then it pops to windows and disappears without error message at all. Only the last time, I got this message.

This crashing happens only sometimes, but when it happens, it happens every time I start the game, until I reboot.

Even a couple of times, it crashed DURING quicksaving, rendering the savegame damaged.
My specs are:

Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice9::present()

Ok, I started having this problem a while back for HL2 and Episode One. I tried EVEYTHING like updating drivers, uninstalling the game and reinstalling it...... it got to a point where I just said screw it and went on to other games. I had posted this very question on a Half-Life 2 video on youtube and got a reply from a dude that said that if i had AVG anti-virus installed on my computer to uninstall it. I said what the hell, I tried everything else so I uninstalled it and guess what? No more of those damn engine errors. I don't know if it'll work for everyone else but it's worth a try. I guess the two were conflicting but I had no problems with Episode Two though, no errors......wierd.
