I get this weird error when i try to enable hibernation in XP, it worked last time i installed xp, but not now(no new hardware). The error says:
"Power Policy Manager unable to reserve hibernate file

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

There is no hibernate.sys(or whatever) file in my c:, and i don't know of any processes that use that non-existant file.
All the latest and necessary win-updates is installed, and i have no clue on what to do. Tried searching at the windows knowlegdebase to no avail.
Please enlighten me with applicable knowlegde.. :dork:

Hmm no idea. How much free disk space do you have, how much memory do you have, and have you run the defragmenter lately?

yeah, i forgot that one. Over 4 giga free on my c:.. 512Mbyte ram and it's nice and defragmented.. But does that have anything to do with it? Thanx anyway. :)

Everything in memory is saved as a file and then reopened later.

I think you misunderstood me.. I know very well what hibernation is, im asking why it doesn't work. Or rather, why i can't enable it.. :)

first of all was the install a different xp disc that you had before. and is it pirated?

Same disc both times, no piracy(atleast not my os) :)
You sound like you are gonna sue me or something.. :O hehe.

no im not going to lol. i was asking because alot of illegal copies have files here and there missing. not that i know from experience or anything

Good, we don't want microcrap breathing down our necks.. :P
It's strange because it's the same software(more or less(no crappy/unneeded software) and the exact same hardware.is there supposed to be a hibernation.sys file in my c drive when hibernation is disabled? Because it isn't there now. I don't think there should be. I haven't found any solutions online either. And i have found no win updates/fixes for it. No info about it on microsofts webpage either.

hmm, I fixed it! :)
I just made an empty text file in c:\ and renamed it to hiberfil.sys, and enabled hibernation. *Bing* and the file was 520Megabytes.. :) Works too.
