Picked up my phone when it rang. Computer voice asked if this was (My name). Then it asked again if this was "(My name)" in a human female voice. If it was, it said to push 1. I did.
It said something along the lines of "For your security, please enter the last
four digits of your social security number" Not knowing my social security number at the time, and not going to enter it even if I did to a phone call that didn't identify itself... I hung up. I'm very concerned about not giving out any excess information.
To hang up, I pushed the button on the phone... held it for about 10 seconds. The voice was still talking, repeating the question to enter social security number.
I repeated it, 30 seconds this time, the voice was still going. I hung up the phone for five minutes. Picked it up, it was still going, and the voice changed to a repeating monotonous tone of "Please stay on the line" for about five minutes. I couldn't hang up even then. No matter what I did, I couldn't hang up.
I unplugged the phone cord cable, and plugged it back in. It was still going.
"please stay on the line, please stay on the line, please stay on the line"
Then it told me to please call a phone number it listed, giving their hours, then giving the phone number again.
The phone number was 1 800 898 2340
Has anybody EVER experienced something like this before? They have technology out there that can completely prevent you from hanging up the call? What the hell.
