Will it affect the Half-Life 2 release date in anyway, shape or form?

I TOOK A LEAK ON YOUR MOMS FACE AND SHE SWALLOWED IT ROFL

Sparta, some seem to believe that the Half Life 2 release is due to the leak but no one's sure yet. BTW, ignore Azn.invaz.

Guess we know who the next person to ban from the forums is

I have no idea if it will or will not be delayed due to the leak, a lot of people seem to think it will be delayed further while I personally don't think so. It'll be interesting to read an official press release about this situation.

I cant see any reason why it would affect the release, but what the hell do I know about producing a game? :)

Well i sure hope it shouldn't, and i hope these guys responsible get what they deserve. And more

IT WILL affect the release: They have to hurry up to release the game before those damn haxors, so the game will be here in less than 2 weeks.

I don't think it will get delayed further, tho valve has suprised us more than once with a delay announcement before...

Man it will affect it, these codes can allow pro visual C++ to make cheat codes easily and hack into any server that uses HL2 mp.

more or less....

I'm starting to think that the delay of the game was due to the leak...tho how it did'nt surface until yesterday, is beyond me?

They knew the source was copied on the 19th, they delayed the game until they could find out wtf was going on. Now they know, and it may be delayed even more, they might have to rewrite a ton of code.

Thats what I think at least.

the reason for the delay is because of the leaked source

the KNEW it had already been leaked

they had to re-code everything for our protection from steams vulnerbilities

Makes sense to me - if I was in Valve's shoes I certainly wouldn't issue a press release stating "our network security sucks and somebody stole the source code to this amazing game and accompanying online authorization/authentication/credit card purchase program" if there was any chance that the perpetrators might be caught while it was all still kept quiet.

As soon as it got distributed on IRC and Bittorrent and other places, though, a statement was required.

I don't mean to sound cynical - Valve was likely making every effort to catch the people involved and prevent the public release of the code. I'm not trying to imply that they were "covering up" anything, only that a premature announcement might have caused more harm than good and it was probably smart to keep it quiet for a bit.

yes well the covering up and silence is all too familiar....remember the d3 leak---suddenly iD was all quiet.

A delay caused by the leak (if its true) really sucks...this mean that hypothetically we could be playing HL2 now, if it weren't for the leak...geeez :(

Im sure that the release delay is from this leak. It fits in perfectly with everything that has happened and what has been said.

This is a very hypothetical suggestion, but could this source code leak the reason why HL2 is delayed overall?

I'm fairly positive it is. I can't imagine Dougs comment about problems with their Email system were coincidental knowing what we now know.

Which, I'm afraid to say sounds like it was a panic (and completely understandable/necessary) last minute pulling of the release when they worked out there was a serious problem.

The timeline fits, the comments fit, the bizarre nature of the delay announcement fits. I'm afraid if it wasn't for the hackers we'd now all be playing HL2 or at least wouldn't be waiting more than a couple of weeks.

Nice one wankers. :/

I was thinking about it earlier and came to the conclusion that the delay is due to the leak also, it all makes sense.

That means that if these asswipes hadnt done this we quite possibly would be playing the game right now...

uh oh...anger rising...Rising.. RISING!........ooh donuts

Damn, this really sucks..

Let's say a big THANK YOU to the people hacking Valve...

ditto.

this is hella worse than leaking a bin 'n' cue file, they don't delay the release. I for one have been browsing almost everyday for six months on here waiting for it to be released, and am well peeved with the delays.

Kinda annoys me I could be at home skiving off playing on HL2, instead of working my assxor off.

I hardly ever post, but this has annoyed me enough too.

....over.

The theft of the HL2 source code and probably the Steam source code, is most likely the *cause* of the delay. At this point I doubt Valve can say when HL2 can be released as they will have to

1) Re-write Steam to be secure so that anyone posessing the 19/9 source code cannot hack the new Steam version.

2) Re-write HL2 enough to stop the people who have the 19/9 HL2 source to be able to write hacks and exploits in the game itself. This means Valve has to analyze the source code not only to try to find any lookholes like buffer underruns etc, but to look at their own source code and see how anyone can write a hack based on them *having access to the 19/9 source code*. This means a lot of work to analyze.

What's your own estimate on these re-writes? I think it will take a couple of weeks to setup a plan and analyze how much work it will take to analyze it to begin with!

If it got the right stuff to do some h4xx00r shit then yes it might be delayed until further notice meaning they have to re-write some parts again and that would totally blow.

I think this will have a big impact.
Valve have to really try hard to make steam cheat proof, heavy data encryption and client content checks. This will take them a huge amout of time i think, and might result in even more bandwith problems and higher pingtimes becouse of the cheat detection.

Also, there will be keygens and no-cd patches out before the game even ships.
They have to rebuild the HL-key system all over again i think.
This whole thing is real bad for the non-cheaters.

I read somewhere the sorce is a month old, but i dont think they will change the sorce in the last stage of developement. just bugfixes and playtersting, so the source is up to date enough to be a real pain for us/valve

just my 2c

btw, the lame my**t cheaters are having a happy day. Really hate them.
