Were you ever given an allowance when growing up?

Did you ever get an allowance from your parents?

Me personally? Nope. Never did. All the other kids did, but I didn't. It really sucked. Heh. Maybe its the reason we have so many impulse spenders though, and people who don't know how to manage their money. Growing up getting it for free from their parents.

I'd like to lie and say that I was given an allowance, but in truth-I did not. I never did. I am in the same boat as Raziaar. It sucks, I know. I was jealous of other kids you actually did get an allowance, even too, my own cousins. :( :flame:
The option I chose was exact to how it was. ;(

The only time I was given $$$, was when I achieved all A's on my report card.

Yea, but it was so close to nothing that I think it shouldnt count. Wtf am I going to do with 3 bucks a week? freakin cheapos.

Oh, and they stoped when I was 13 because they wanted me to get a job.

i think i got a "weekly allowance" of 10 dollars, but i only got that like once every 2 months and i only got it like 3 times as far as i recall, but my dad was very generous with his money, but he wouldnt let me buy stupid crap that i wouldnt want asnymore in a week, he got me things like nice clothes and electronics and stuff, i really miss him, he has been dead since february 8th 1999

:dozey: I don't get allowance, I just ask my parents for money and stuff when I want it. But, i'm trying to find a job to buy my own shit rather than my parents.

no, i have a job you hippies.
I'm sure he's referring to when you couldn't have had a job, you hippy. And yeah, I got one until I was old enough to get a job... unless I ****ed something up and I'd get it taken away or a reduction. ;(

Allowance? What's that???

.... nope, never got one. But then I never really bought anything, so who needs an allowance if you don't buy stuff.... although I did buy Craisins on occasion, and $1 fish. Those $3 fishies were real special..... My parents always bought my clothes for me (yes, my mommy chose my clothes!) or I'd get hand-me-downs. I still get hand-me-downs. In fact, my aunt just brought me more hand-me-downs when she came over today.........

between the ages of about 8 and 12 my mum used to give me £2.50 on a Saturday afternoon so that I could go swimming then watch the matinee at the cinema while she went out spending the day getting drunk.

So technically I suppose I did get 'pocket money', but it was only so she could go and get drunk (and now she's an alcoholic :().

I was on an allowance and I'm damned stingy. I am actually stingier (word?) than my friend who never was on an allowance.

Nope. I didn't really need any money as a kid. I always did chores around the house so if I needed a small thing my parents would usually get it for me if I had a good reason. After I was somewhat older and actually wanted things which required more money I had to get a job.

I have more money than my parents do :-/
So.. no

The reverse can be argued, people never had money so they didn't no quite what to do with it, also if your parents force you to spend wisely and teach you lessons through allowence.

I was joking joking with that comment =P i didn't expect anybody to look seriously into it.

Yes, But when I finally got a substantial amount (I think it was $90 a month) I was expected to buy Food for me for the month (that meant any time I ate out, plus all the food I ate at home) Clothes and school supplies ect, and my bus pass.

So I'd have maybe $10 a month to spend on other things.
