Ok so here's my deal, I live in Norway. I don't know about the rest of the world but here in Norway they don't sell the game in normal cd's, just as one DVD cd. Now I have a 1.4 ghz athlon computer with a gf 3 ti 500 and all of the specs of my computer is well above the minimum requirements. Problem is i do NOT have a dvd rom drive, so anyway, I figured i'd outsmart this, and register my cd key with steam.

After doing this I could download half life 2 from steam, which I did. And now, like normal steam buyers, I downloaded the whole game from steam, only problem is when I try to play it it says I have to insert cd. I looked at some other posts around here but none of these solutions work, neither does any of the situations match mine, anyone have an idea what I can do now?

Thanks in advance.

ouch... You'll just have to wait for a no cd patch, or wait and see if steam releases a patch that will stop the cd check. Or go buy a dirt cheap DVD-rom.

Ok well actually I managed to make a no cd 'crack' myself so. Hehe, thanks for the post though, didn't quite think about it. w00t w00t, cheers.
