What is your favorite game?

Mine is Metal Gear Solid 3 because you can shoot dogs in the face.

In the 1990s, a group of ex-Konami employees banded together to form their own company. They called it Treasure, and they produced masterpieces. Chief among these was Gunstar Heroes, the greatest game to ever be created. Though made by mortal hands, Gunstar Heroes was crafted with such love and genius that it is nothing short of divine.

Gunstar Heroes is a 1-2 player sidescrolling action game, where you play as either Red Gunstar or Blue Gunstar, on a quest to stop the God of Ruin, Golden Silver, from being resurrected by the Empire.

The art is gorgeous. The gameplay is fast, fluid, and never lets up. You can combine weapon types to form more powerful combinations, suited to your playstyle. You can run, jump, slide, jumpkick, flip, grab enemies and use them as shields or hurl them at each other. You can pick up your 2P friend and throw him to gain distance or as an attack. You fight some of the most innovative bosses ever in a game, from the wacky Melon Bread that traps you in a board game, to fighting your own brother, Green Gunstar, atop his giant, transforming robot Seven Force. It is so named because it has seven forms, including A GIGANTIC GUN.

You will slide down pyramids, traverse a jungle village, fly through space, ride a plane above an enemy airfield. You will fight unrelenting hordes of enemies, topple dictators, fight to win back the heart and memories of your brother, and fight to stop a god from destroying the Earth. The climax ends with one of the manliest sacrifices ever.

There is no game greater than Gunstar Heroes. No game shall ever be created that can surpass Gunstar Heroes. This is not an opinion. This is a fact.

Yeah, okay Darkseid, but what is your favorite game?

This thread is now about Gunstar Heroes. I freaking love that game. I played it all the time when I was younger and now have it on the Wii. Probably played it more on the Wii than the majority of the full games I own for it.

The best combination of weapons was clearly Lightning Chaser.

It's a damn hard game though, like the other Treasure games.

Ever played Sin & Punishment Darkside?

Halo.

Reg, not yet. I need to play it, especially since there's already a sequel coming out.

And hell yes, lightning chaser. It's the best combination, but IMO the funnest combination is lightning flame.

Mutant League Football. Because its Mutant League Football.

You must play it. It is amazing. I'm really hoping 2 gets a UK release. :(

Did you eve play Gunstar Super Heroes for GBA? Apparently it didn't feature weapon combinations!

If it's on virtual console then I guess I've gotta try this Gunstar Heroes out...

If I had to pick a favorite game of all time, I suppose it would be Team Fortress 2.

Halo, fun and replayable as ****.
Unreal Tournament GOYE for same reasons but more so on multiplayer.

TF2. never had a hard time deciding whether or not i want to play this game.

Goddamn it, it's 3am and I've been playing GH for the last hour and a half.

Obliv-****ing-ion.

I played it for about 4 months. Now that's my personal record!

It's not better than Big Rigs lololololol

Anyway, Insurgency (HL2 mod) began to grow on me during a period when I didn't have internet on my computer. Basically, I just watched a shitload of gameplay videos on YouTube because I missed it so much. The guns. The bang. The "hang." The way bullets hit flesh. The feel of it.

A tad bit of an underrated game. Maybe not so much, provided its slightly lesser amount of content compared to other multiplayer games, but for what you have, it's an awesome mod. Getting a rather startling kill by blasting an insurgent two feet away as he comes around a corner is like accidentally dropping an anvil on a demon fetus that raped your family. You feel like a dirty bastard, but you feel good.

Either way, I know that even though Insurgency is, at its core, a relatively generic FPS, it does have a few game mechanics thrown into the mix which provide enough variety.

Running through the craters and ditches in Buhriz in a mad dash towards the town contemplating what sinister thing lurks beyond, taking aim at you while you're silhouetted against the orange horizon. Or just jumping from one point of cover to another in a zig-zag across the mean-streets of Haditha at night. Yeah.

And it has good music.

Basically, anything that has graced the Source engine or is related to Half-Life is good.

A few other games are Company of Heroes: Has good depth in gameplay, decent singleplayer and you can tear the crap out of the battlefield.

GTA series: Running, driving, flying or boating around a city doing whatever you want, with a few more things to do in GTA IV.

Ace Combat 4 and 5 were nice games. There's something about flying over a fictional landmass with exotic superweapons and just watching a war fold in and out. Beautiful music too, especially in the former one.

I wish I could decide one single game that would be held above all others, but it is not possible for me. Split by genre would make a little easier, but it would still result in my mind tearing itself apart.

I have no favourite games. I only have games which I will play, and play, and play, until the day I die.

Mario 64. It's perfect. It was the first game to give us proper 3d. It was insane - like controlling a little robot than could run about on my tv. It still does this better than 99% of games today. When it comes to pure quality of design in a video game I struggle to think of anything that comes close. It stuck to Mario conventions while completely reinventing the genre and changing how games have been designed and played since. It was disgustingly inventive, creative, innovative, and yet still managed to be greater than the sum of its perfect parts. The word gameplay should be replaced with 'Mario 64' in the dictionary and every game developer should forced to complete the game 10 times before being unleashed on the world.

X-COM UFO Defense.

It's simply the greatest game ever made.

WRONG.

Ratchet and Clank 2 was the perfect game.
*blocks ears and starts going lalalalalalaalaalalalaa*

Watch out for the Chryssali- OH shit too late now you're a zombie.

Battlefield 1942.
The mods, man, the mods.

Also, the first time I stepped foot on Wake Island in the demo... I was awe struck by how damn huge the map was... and then a group of planes flew by overhead and I saw tanks begin opening fire across the airfield and that's when I knew I had found something special.
It truly was the best multiplayer game to be released in years.

Also, Diablo 2.
Captivating storyline with fantastic cinematics.
The game proved limitless as it played differently each time and with a bunch of classes and skills and stuff to try out it kept me entertained for a long time.
And then I ventured onto BNET, haven't stopped playing since.

Eejit beat me to the punch. XCom UFO Defense is my all time favorite game by a pretty large margin. Great turn based strategy, good RPG elements, good base building/research/economy elements. But last and certainly not least.... To this day it is the single best example of deformable environments.

Honorable Mention:
-----------------------
1. BF1942/Desert Combat mod
2. Jedi Knight
3. Civ 4

Oops wrong thread. So yeah, Mario 64...

err, DS version.

MEH.

Mario 64. It's perfect.
Accurate representation of every gamer's first experience with Mario 64:

"Hold forward...he walks...tilt the stick all the way forward...HOLY SHIT HE RUNS! THIS IS AMAZING!"

I shouldn't have to give a ****ing reason.

Hmmm I always say the same 1 or 2 games in these threads so I'll say a few different ones. :p

Secret of Mana (epic), Legend of Mana (charming)

aaaaand

Metroid Prime (scurry)

The "atmosphere" is what makes all 3 of these games, from graphics to music, to whatever... just sucks ya in!

Not my experience :|

Pfft, let me guess, you were a Playstation fanboy and didn't get an N64... too bad!

I've had the most (positive) memories playing Half Life Deathmatch Classic. But I shouldn't forget the fantastic - and addictive - days of Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Star Wars Jedi Academy, and Star Wars Galaxies.

Quake 1
Rise Of The Triad
Diablo 2
StarCraft
Battlefield 2
Counter-Strike
Final Fantasy 7

Dear god, I have too many favorites.
