For a while I am searching for a suitable editor for making a platform game. A friend of mine told me that the HL2 editor will do. So, I have a couple of questions before I can get to work:

1: Does this editor work with separate camera positions?
I mean that this camera is set sideways from the character (Mario world for example)

2: This game requires high speeds. Now does it seem logical to me that this will not be a problem. Ok the levels must be big, is that a problem?

3: Supports this editor self made 3d max / photoshop files, even for the main character?

I hope that you can help me out!

Models have to be made in Softimage XSI, I know that for sure. The other two I don't think are a problem.

what was codename gordon(platform game) made with?

With some coding skills you can put the camera wherever you want. You will need to wait for the full SDK to be released though.

Depends how big...

You can use your own custom textures and models. You will have to wait for the full SDK to use your own models.

The running speed more depends on how much you can see at any one time. With a platform game, I can imagine you're only seeing a small area, so you should be pretty safe.
