What Do You Think The Best Video Card Manufacturer Is?

At the moment I think theres no question that ATI holds the crown. I think Nvidia really messed up on the FX series. Overall? I think Nvidia probibly has more fans especially since the whole "The way its meant to be played" thing started. So, I really dont know if I'm gonna vote. Too hard for me to decide.

"Nvidia is such a phat company with their funky l33t speak, I will buy their dope card because of this, fo shizzle ma nizzle."
I think that speaks for itself, Mr. Limit.

A year ago, Nvidia, right now, ATI.

(I own a Geforce 4 TI 4200)

I agree with you Baal, Nvidia needs to get there act together.

I perfer Nvidia as a graphics manufacturer.
I really like ATI too but not quite as much. Asus and Gainward would be up there for card manufacturers.
Currently ATI has overall better performance in games, most noticably in DirectX9.
But I like Nvidia for solid driver support/OpenGL apps/2D environment(performance/options)
Prior to the FX series they were great for the latest DirectX as well.
I own:
Nvidia GF2 TI 64MB/GF4 TI 4200 128MB
ATI All-in-Wonder 128 pro 16MB/Radeon 7200 32MB PCI/Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

Oh and some Diamond 8MB gfx card.

there's no question that right now it's ATI.. could change down the line (most certainly will eventually). we should keep an eye on XGI, wouldn't be surprised if some such upstart sneaks past the ATI-Nvdia wars..
i own a geforce2 ultra and a radeon 9800pro aiw

Asus pretty much summed it up nicely..

3DFX :( :flame:

yah.. sad isn't it that we don't have another company to push Ati and Nvidia to make better cards at lower prices.. :|

and honestly, back in tha day, 3DFX made some really kickass cards for good prices and they were competing really well with the competition too.. MHO: 3DFX was the one company that has given the best bang for the buck deal.. its too bad Nvidia bought them out

Nvidia Destroyed them with Lawsuits that were Bullshit.

I will never Purchase a Nvidia card.

Bollocks to ATI and Nvidia. Long live 3dfx, it's ghost lives on.

Voted ATI, used to have a GeForce 4 MX but nows I gots a 9800pro, ATI wins right now.

I remember we used to have a poll on this everyday back in the summer. :cheese:

Ive been using an ATI card for about a year now....... seems with ATI you get better quality AA and AF, all around better IQ...... there drivers seem to be slightly more buggy than Nvidias...but i think some of that can be attributed to nvidia paying lots of cash to developers to iron out all the bugs for them.
....with all the recent fanfare about nvidias cheating to make inferior hardware perfom on par with there competition....i dont trust there drivers so much..or the company as a whole.

I also see better average framrates with ATI when i read reviews wich means more than what card gets 7000 more fps in quake 3 and 359.9876 more point in 3dmark03(a pretty craptacular bench).

.....but...if nvidias next line of cards are significantly faster than ATI's and produce simliar IQ....as well as are reasonable in the price/perfomance area.....id buy one again. if they are to close to call....i will stick with ATI.

ATI currently, but like Timmy says, keep an eye on XGI. The technology that allows them to put more than one GPU chip on a graphics card sounds cool...

ATI without a doubt.
I was a 3DFX fan, then I got a ati rage 3d pro... and from then on I DESPISED ATI.
I continued with voodoos, until they dissolved the company and were absorbed by Nvidia.. logically I became an invidia fan.
got Geforces through to the ti4600
then came the major decision... when building my new comp nothing much was really heard about Nvidia's new 5800 ultra (at the time the 5900 wasnt dreamed up yet/heard of) or the 9800 pro....
I did all the research I could (since I wanted my card to really change the face of my games, and I wanted it to last me a while)...
after hearing about people complain about the sound the 5800 made, the need for 2 pci slots etc etc... I still was going to buy it... I was in the store with the 5800 ultra in my hands and... I dunno.. I heard the 9800 pro was shaping up to be a decent card, and had mass raw power so... I took a chance.

after making a lot of stupid purchases (dreamcast, xbox) which have become obsolete I really hoped the 9800 pro could stand the test of time (and power :) )...
I was floored by the power it gave my PC, the resolutions I had never dreamed of seeing I now played in with AA and AF on max, for once in a long long time I could crank all gfx options to full and play games as the devs wanted them to be played.... maybe even better.

Im really really satisfied with my radeon 9800 pro, I have never been more satisfied with ANY hardware purchase before it.

i have an ati 9800 pro. i voted for ati, because i have a radeon, not because i know a sh*t about graphics cards. This is because i dont know a sh*t about graphics cards.

Currently..........ATI but wait until the 15TH of FEB. On that date ATI and Nvidia will release their Next Gen Cards The (ATI420, and NV40).

They both can produce 51.32GBs, whereas XT and NV5900 produce max of 21, 27 respectivly.

hmmm, i dont know what the hell u where talking about gorgon but the numbers are over double and so makes me drool anyway.

well i do know wat ur on about but i dont know what difference it makes... or do i??? maybe i should just shut the f*** up.

ATI.

OK, let's clear one thing up. If you have Windows XP ATI's driver support is superior to Nvidias.

IT'S ON THE FRICKING FRONT PAGE, EVEN NVIDIA'S SITE DOESN'T DO THAT.

Face it people, ATI has cleaned up their Driver act. They have a link on the front page (direct link too!) and a gigantic "Drivers & Software" button.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?!

There. So besides that old excuse, ATI seems to be the best IMO right now.

ATI for me right now, partially b/c it's the 1st graphics card ive ever had, last POS comp i had just had some VGA controller, lagged soooo bad when i played deus ex1. Ive heard a lot about XGI lately, are they available anywhere to purchase yet, or are they still in development stages?

btw i have a 9800pro, main difference i notice is that games actualy run on my comp, period. Unreal2 and DX2 couldnt even run on my old comp it sucked so bad

When Nvidia decided to release TWIMTBP, It was a really bad move. I will never go back just because of that. I dont think a company deserves my money by blackmailing me. I own an ATI Radeon 7500, and an ATI Radeon 9600.

That will vary, a few years ago Nvidia reigned supreme and I was laughed at with my Ati Rage Pro, that has changed, now Ati is the undisputed master. But I won't react to surprised when the Nv40 whoops the R420' ass. I don't care if I have Ati or Nvidia, anybody who does care is sad, it's the card that matters, and it's speed and price/quality ratio, not it's manufacturer. If the NV40 suddenly kicks ass, I'll buy one of those, but maybe Ati's r420 is much faster. Who knows?
I now have a Point of View GF4 XP Turbo, but I'd like a Radeon 9700 np or 9800 pro.

The GF4 Ti series was awesome........then came the FX series

*slow clap*

I think nVidia got wrapped up in "tomzh4rdw4re benchzmarkz resulté me4nz teh world0rz" and not on actual game performance. Shame really :(

As for Quake 3 - why is that still being used as a benchmark? The top gfx cards easily get into 100fps with everything maxed. A real test for them

The just got out of the DirectX group (MS/ATI/Nvidia usually) but they are back in it.
That is the story behind the FX flop.
