What Does Subscribing To A Thread Do?

Whenever I go to User CP it goes to a page and says "You are not subscribed to any threads today" or something like that, but it turns out I have 2 threads I'm subscribed too (How that happened, I do not know). What does is do though?

I believe it enables emails to be sent everytime someone posts in that particular thread you've subscribed to.

It's just for easier navigation. Instead of wading through forums and forums of threads, you can check on the ones you especially want to in the User CP. It's perhaps not as effective on a smaller forum like this one.
