What engine does this game run on? Just curious. And in your opinion, would it look better/worse in Source?

look better in source, run worse.

Think its their own engine...

And the second question is unanswerable really... seen as if they ported over all the content... it would pretty much look exactly the same :P

This engine can do larger enviroments better though I would have thought...

Guess we will never really know... :p

Hmm... I don't think source can manage grass like that. Othwerise i'd have to say it'd look better in source. But you're asking this in a Half life 2 forum after all.

Well.....the graphics aren't quite up to Source standards.

BUT, it still looks spectacular.

Source would run a battlefield game like ass, the engine is not designed to do massive lod terrain like the bf engine or other terrain engines like the cryengine. Source is at it's heart a bsp engine, even with it's displacement surfaces and skybox rendering hacks. While source may do well for small to medium bsp architecture and the occasional displacement, it is not suited to the wide open spaces that the bf engine is designed for.

I think that: BF2 would not work well on the HL2 engine, HL2 would not work well on the BF2 engine.

Source would make BF2 look and run like crap. Sure the buildings and models would be nice but the terrain, grass, etc would look pretty weak. The environment is pretty huge just on the 32 player map, larger than any HL2 map. I wanna see the 64 player map :D

on source, the geometry and textures and models would be orgasmically fine and clear, but the levels are too big for source and it'd lag really badly.

Personally, I keep my gfx on low, with 800 by 600 res, I could have med with 1000 by whatever res.. but I'd rather keep my 60fps XD
