Hey guys. My friend recently got RoadRunner, and he has finally switched off of AOL and is now on FireFox. I've been setting him up with all of the goodies and applications to protect himself from malicious individuals. Today I had him get Ad-Aware Personal, and he scanned. After the scan was complete, this is what was said:

[11:45] anoyamikami: 938 critical objects found, that bad?
[11:45] Kramer Got Bit: ..
[11:45] anoyamikami: Yes?
[11:45] Kramer Got Bit: Is your dad still there?
[11:45] anoyamikami: No.
[11:45] Kramer Got Bit: HOLY F*CK
[11:46] anoyamikami: lol
[11:46] Kramer Got Bit: THAT'S INSANE.

I was blown away. That is most spyware I've ever seen on one PC. I seriously hope nothing is screwed up with his computer.

This just goes to show you that using crappy insecure browsers like IE or AOL's built-in browser, coupled with not scanning for spyware daily, can totally f*ck you over.

Enjoy!

WMP9 licences are worse, I got caught by accident with one of them, took a whole night to clean things up, thankfully the firewall caught it all trying to connect to the net so it was just the initial crap that I was lumbered with.. Worst case of spyware I'd had so far, thing is, was my own fault accepting the licence when I knew better.

And while Firefox seems secure, don't forget its only because the majority still use IE, once the majority use FF it'll be just as bad. Same goes for Linux and Mac's those are only relatively safe cause the majority don't use them.

Everything that has "Microsoft" in it's name is bad for you and you computer :dork:

I know. But even so, if someone hijacked IE, you're whole HDD is at risk since IE is Windows Explorer, which is used to navigate your HDDs. FireFox is a seperate application, so this can't be done.

A friend of mine was giving me some advice for his first build. He told me, once I get the machine up and running, not to register windows xp till I get all my spyware scanners and blockers back up and running. He said that the second he registered his copy, he was flooded with spyware.

Guess i'll have to get the spyware blaster installer burned onto a disk.

ive had more...i had more and 1500, but its all gone now

my comp was really slow and got like 20 pop ups in like every 5 seconds
