I read a thread about a script to autosprint in HL2:DM and some people were saying they needed it, some that they didn't agree with scripts like that. Fair enough, each to their own and all that, but in the mysterious and open area that is my mind, the next thought that occurred was, what if there was a "thought reader" that you could use to control games?

Imagine you are walking down the street. Are you thinking "Right foot up, forward, down, left foot up..."? No, you don't even think about it, you just know you want to walk and your subconscious does the rest. Now imagine the same is true of this mind reader. How would you feel if this was implemented into today’s games, so you had keyboard/mouse users against "mind reader" users?

For the purpose of this thread, let us assume such a thing does exist, so no "But its not possible" posts please.

Just to get us started, I personally feel that anything that steps towards virtual reality is a good thing. How about you guys?

*Edit - Not quite sure how I managed to stick this here, could a kindly mod move it to off-topic please?

But what if someone hacks you......

That would be cool,I think it is quiet possible in the future,if we are lucky, mabye it will happen in our lifetime ^_^.

i dunno how you got to that subject from autosprint scripts, its a good subject though.

For a game to be realistic you need for all the senses and controls to act like they do in real life........we have mastered a few but not even started on Others.

What you are talking about would be relaying nervous impulses into a game to make you move, this would be very hard to achieve at present, you think how many nervous impulses you need for correct movement e.t.c.

At the momment technology allows us to be fully imersed in games optically and sonically we have glasses that look round the environment as you look round (giving a full 3D feel due to stero image) and we have pretty decent surround sound capabilities that calculate distances, direction and even object blocking /sound bouncing (echos e.t.c)

The input for games has stayed the same for 20 years.
Joypad, joystick, steerling wheel, mouse, keyboard........all were around in the 80's

Input and physical stimulation are the next thing they can aim for, so you really do feel like your in a game......i believe physical movement is the way to go.
That way gaming wouldn't be unhealthy.......you wouldn't be sat on your ass, you would be moving about, "running", jumping .....whatever.

The only disadvantage with physical input is you need space to move and some way of providing background objects.....i mean how would you run up stairs in VR......if it was running straight it would feel wierd and ruin the illusion.

That is where nervous stimulation could be better, being given impulses to make you think you can feel stairs or whatever.

I just dont want anything plugged into my nervous system with the knowledge that hackers exist today.......imagine having the game hijacked by 2025 ***** and being anally raped for 5 hours until a family member frees you from the machine.
EDIT: heh, didn't know the "m" word depicting a clan of people who hack/rage games and forums was filtered.
