Who ever said they were ATi only? Gabe said for high end PC.
 
I don't want to sound like a whiner but this is just downright unfair. We all paid almost the same amount of money.

Hows it unfair? The ati levels are EXTRA. They dont replace anything and you are not losing out.

Yes but you haven't got the ATI card that gets you into the club.

'Membership' has it's privleges. Wish I was a member - but oh well. It's not like there's going to be a shortage of mods, what with the entire world screaming for multiplayer and a longer game.
 
Gabe called them "the ATI levels" because he considers the high end ATI cards to be cream of the crop, this does not mean they are ATI only.
 
they better not be Ati exculsive, alot of us do have geforce cards! i'm sure some1 will crack it

I don't think there is a way to restrict the engine to one graphics card vendor.

lol the 9800 series is not HIGH -END mate,sorry.The X800 IS.

The 9800 is medium range now due to alot better cards out there now,i had 2 9800's and they both dies after about a year,so i saved up and got a 6800 GT 256 mg and i have never looked back,but i feel if these levels are for ati only then its harsh tbh. :frown:

i agree,it is total and utter crap but the point is...they are NOT going to be ati exclusive,thats what i mean when i say BS,that stupid guy on steam forums is just full of crap posting BS.
 
Well nvidia cards are crap. You should buy a real card instead. ATI :D Anyway this game is supported by ATI so no wonder users get the ATI bonuses. Maybe if nvidia would bother it would make some DooM3 levels :D ( Anyway i think even if they are ATIs only there would be a "fix" soon. If of course these levels dont use some great features available only on ATIs cards like 3Dc texture compression.

I dont like nvidia but their new cards are not crap.
 
yeah, plus nvidia performed better overall than ati on the benchmarks.

Overall yes they did indeed.I feel ATI produce cards that run far too hot,i went through 2 9800 pros before going to nvidia 6800 gt.So i have used both ati and nvidia,and i hate ATI cards tbh.They are crap IMO.

So theyre crap based off one person, you, having problems with them? Neither companies new cards are crap. The geforce 5 series was crap, if you want an example of what crap is.

by the time these "Ati levels" are made available, the X800's and 6800's will no longer be the tog dog either...so yeah those who own X800's and 6800's can rub it in all they want right now... but even they will in the same position as the 9800 Pro card owners :p

They are crap in my personal opinion yes,based on my experiences alone yes they are crap.The letters IMO stand for In My Opinion.Just to let you know.The new ati cards i have not used so i cannot comment as i have no experience with them,but the so called 'decent' 9800 pro was flakey pastry at best.
 
So here's my theory.

ATI got screwed on the September 2003 tie-in and launch. Remember the Alcatraz island rental? D'oh.

So, they hold Gabes feet over the fire and say, "You better do something after launch, or we'll sue your ass for breach of contract!"

So, Gabe and company do up some "ATI Levels" that will most likely work fine with other hardware, but will none-the-less drive some sales to ATI.

It's all marketing, baby.

You first said "ati suck, nvidia are very good". Thats a lot different to saying something like "i got a couple of bad ati cards once". The first sentance makes you sound like a fanboy, the second doesnt.

Maybe i was a bit direct at first :p

Should have elaborated more.I just feel that both nvidia and ati are bastards sometimes,i mean whats with all this 'the way its meant to be played ' crap aswell? Consumers should not be punished for choosing a specific type of card.I do love my 6800 GT though,i have had no probs with it so far and it runs HL2 so well on max settings,which is basically the main reason i upgraded to such an expensive card.

Just hope there are some extras for us all coming as i loved HL2 but damn is it short.
