What is up with the servers!

I am amazed by HL2DM but I must say I am completely disgusted with the amount of lag going on. I went to various servers: low player+low ping, average players+low ping, and the lag was horrible. I hope this isnt a permanent problem and is fixed post haste.

There aren't many true dedicated servers up yet. It came as such a surprise that almost all the servers right now are actually home computers and don't have a connection truly capable of supporting a real net game.

Just give it time and things will improve.

There's also the huge amount of physics calculations that have to be performed, resulting in some lag. Just wait for some good servers.

what you talking about? join one of the good uk servers (makes ure you untick servers that are full filter) and you will find a game where it is perfect like i did.

i found very good games.

It's or the server, or your connection.

I just tried and couldn't find anything worth playing on. Everything is either full or runs like crap. I know this is to be expected at this time, but I'm just pointing out it's not just his machine.

Yeah Im having the same problem as I had with CS:S - Only servers with huge pings show up on my server list in HL2: DM and the only way to join a high ping server is via the find servers option outside of HL2: DM and CS:S in Steam. But even then when I join a game my ping is something ridiculous like 400-800 and im on a 1.5mb connection.

I dont have any problems with normal CS/HLDM or TFC... wtf is goin on?!?! :(

I'd think that most calculations on physics are actually on your side, meaning your computer would get more stress then usual. If you're going to send ALL physics interactions on the map to your comp it might get a little much.

The game is not laggy--the fact most games are not on dedicated servers right now. This means you have limited BW (most broadband companies offer very small upstream BW), and are competing for resources on the client system. And distance from the server makes a big difference. Click here for more info on how to find a good server and ones to avoid. It has to do with the servers right now, not the game. The netcode is excellent and the physics do not really hurt much. Remember, every bullet in a game like CS or BF1942 has to be calculated also, and they do fine.

This was a surprise release and has been out less than a day. Give it a few more days. I KNOW it plays very ell because I have been on solid 20+ player servers. So be patient :)

it def needs a bit of tweaking, let valve see how it runs on dedicated servers and im sure they will have a patch to get things running more smoothly out in a week or two, I'm very impressed they released MP+SDK by wednesday.

I just tried running a dedicated server locally (with just me joining) and it was laggy. You have to use 'high' priority on the server to get decent physics performance out of it.

I think this is a problem but it will be fixed soon... I tested the DM and it was great but wuuh what lag. Before I connected to server Steam showed 30 ping but when I got inside its 150. Don't think that it has much to do whit my pc coz I tested it whit lowest settings and 800 x 600 resolution and still those players were warping like hell.

I had the lag problem to, hopped on to another server, no problem at all.

Some servers just suck as in every game and because of the physics you notice it somewhat sooner I guess.

If you join a good server there will be no problems at all.
