What job can you see yourself doing/ what is your job?

In 10 years i can see myself owning bill gates by smacking him with a lap top with linux as the os and get away with it. (I will be that rich and powerfull)
Right now im working as a IT tech at a college.

OMFG IA HAM GOIUN TO BE A ROC-KSSTA LOL?!#!1.1..!1./1/..1/!>?oneone?!/1

Either a game designer, a game journalist, a music journalist, or some sort of combination between the three. Which sounds painful. I already know I have a knack for writing (no, that's not the ego talking :) ), and my life effectively revolves around gaming and music....so why not. At the moment though, I'm jobless, and damned happy. :D I may end up working in GAME or Music Zone by the summer though.

I'm hopeing to get into games development eventually. I am gona learn C++ at the next chance I get. I did try a long time ago when I was younger but got distracted by life. But I think I will try again. :)

Also, I can model a tincy bit. And I know alot about games design in general.....

I have some awesome ideas for feasable features in games that would be sooo cool. :)

And I am helping make a mod for HL2. But the project leader is getting bored..... Not a good sign. I will do it by myself if I have to. But I would rather I did'nt loose this guy. I know him in person. He is a good modeler and a good guy. But he does'nt have the time/patience to wait for the SDK and HL2 anymore. Aww well. Can't be long now.

Wow, I went off topic...

Well I still havent worked out what i want to do :(. I want to do something worthwhile but i dunno what........maybe a roadsweeper :p Ill see how university goes, im probably doing either physics, enviromental science or i dunno something enviormental i like that stuff.

Well I see myself in 4-7 years as a PRO programmer in .NET applications or in Designing hardware drivers. My dream was game's coder but I am not sure now. Anyway I am CS student at a university north London.

Finishing law school and preparing myself for Spanish National Police executive branch (inspector) opositions, aiming at getting into Interpol some day.

I'm a student at the mo, hoping to do biochemistry at uni (got a couple of offers :)) and then something biochemical at the end of the course :)

Well, I certainly hope to become a Police Officer one day. Things might turn out differently though...

Remember, when you catch me drunk in Spain, that I'm a nice guy. And when you catch the hacker ( i guess Interpol will catch him in 10 years) give him a beating for me.

BTW I live right next door. Portugal.

I will be aiming for politics. I want to be the SRU (Supreme Ruler of the Universe)
No, really.

Something in the game development industry... but i could also go with computer technician/whatever (like i am now) :)

Im still a student right now though.

I work at a rubber factory. My obligations are to measure rubber wokrpiece #2 and to write reports on its quality.

Hey, cool. I kinda want to get into environmental science or environmental engineering or something like that too; the only problem is I don't know what kind of jobs there are for that field. I think I probably started getting interested in that stuff when I realized that 3 articles on environmental stuff from 6th grade science class were the only bits of information that I actually remembered/cared about from that class. The ecology stuff is probably the most interesting stuff I got out of school and probably the only reason I really liked biology class.

Gorgon, what uni you go to? chances are you've probably seen me around the your Students Union (i tour around london with a mate's band as a roadie). i go to a university in west london studying CS. i'm also lead designer for AGP so hopefully once i've graduated i can work full time. i'm also working at my local abbey national to make ends meet (translation: to provide beer money).

lots of budding game developers here which is what i like to see. there's too many 'professionals' who aren't really gamers, they're just pushing stuff out the door. nice to see some gamers making inroads into the industry.

your most likely job would be as a researcher, or a lecturer at a university in your chosen environmental field. i know someone who studied Biology and The Environment and is now working in Parliament as an advisor. nifty eh? there's loads of jobs around for doing environment stuff, they're just not the obvious ones.

dude same here! I either wanna be a professional moddeler or just like, game designer on the whole, or make movies!

at the moment am stuck in Alton Towers Hotel (some shitty theme park for those who dont know) wishin to god i was working for valve! :D

Hmmm ive never thought about government jobs, but u know that just might be a good one , hmmmm..... researching would be cool too :) screw designing games :p. Those sound great. Well only 2 more school years and im outta here and off to uni yay!

i have no idea. probably going to do with games though, the only intrest that ive kept all my life. im a good writer also. i was wanting to write for ign.com mabye.

o and im going to make a billion off of playing tennis also. :)

writing about games would be an awesome job. you'd get to play lots of games all the time, sounds like fun :D

computer imaging major(fine arts), i'll sell out and do commerciall stuff for money, but i'll be doing lots of artwork too, computer/painting/drawing/sculpture/whatever... maybe try to sell some stuff, hmm do some gallery exhibits, so eh. also my band is important to me... so eh hope to still be doing that in 10 years.

its hard choosing between what u want to do, or what will make u lotsa mula. Cause for me, they're not linked. If i choose money, it'd be something with physics like ballistics or aeronautics, something along those lines. If i go the way of what i want to do, its definately got to be a cop. Thing that pisses me off is how most cops nowadays are fat bastards who have no chance of running down a criminal. They dont even bother looking after themselves.

Fireman... Currently working hard in the gym several times a week ready for the last intake of the year if my application goes well! :E

Half-Life 2 Player or Professional Gambler.

I'm currently a call centre sales agent for www.expedia.co.uk.

Doing well there so in about a year I might be looking at being a duty manager there, then from there I could be the department manager. They must be on at least £30k a year.

Then again, I can't be arsed so I'll probably do call centre jobs for the rest of my life.

I just want to things from my future job:

1. Enough $ so I could buy anything (reasonable) without thinking about money.
2. Respect

As long as I have those two things I'll be happy

Become a Dictator...

Not sure right now. I'm learning C++ as we speak (wrote my first ever program from scratch minutes ago! AN ADDITION CALCULATOR! ..hey, for starting C++ today, I feel accomplished :)), so I want to do something with programming in the long run. Most likely something in the gaming business..

Past that, my only other aspiration is to be a web designer. I plan to take programming and web design in college, but I'm still in highschool for now.

Hmm, seems like +80% of people here want to be in the game industry... at least I won't be bored in the future.

I currently own an independent insurance agency. We sell group health insurance to small and medium sized buisnesses. We've been in buisness for about 8 years, and have grown to become one of the largest broker houses in Houston. Although I wanted a job in the game industry, that's not where I ended up. I wouldn't give this up for anything though, I do enjoy my job.

hmm the gaming industry is very hard to get into and lots of hard work, that would be an excellent job but good luck to u guys :D if i see a decline in gaming i know who to blame :sniper:

Civil and environmental engineering: Study alot of maths a physics for the first couple of years and learn how big ass buildings stand up, then move more into the enviornmental modules, learning about contamination etc. You can become a civil engineer on a very reasonable wage, who works in the environmental sector advising building companies what to do, why they should do it and what they should avoid. If you've got the ambition you could also be working in far off lands looking at the environmental aspects of building a dam in some nice hot country. Shit loads of these jobs available, and pretty interesting if u don't mind maths.

Alternatively...

Ecology: Proffesional tree hugger. Beard, saddles, and wooly jumpers are a must.

Cool, that sounds like fun. I read an article about people designing more environmentally-friendly buildings; sounded pretty interesting. Oh well, I guess in about a year I'll see what I pick to study. Maybe if I get into engineering, then if I don't feel like doing environmental anymore I can switch to something else in engineering.

And I've met people who are friends with tree huggers. :p Sometimes they build platforms in the trees and have people bring them food and stuff so they never have to come down..... Like the kid in that book Baron in the Trees, hmm....

Would anyone object to another future game developer?
Yep, thats where I'm headed. Im a first year college student :)

Well concerning engineering degrees, in Scotland anyway, you generally do a general engineering year, building on maths, physics, and a sample of all the engineering subjects. Then you can choose after your first year... It's quite a good setup. I don't think ur given that luxery in England though as the degree is a year shorter. (Reason I came to scotland was because I didn't know which engineering I wanted to do, and have a year to do sweet FA, as it's really easy). Something to consider anyway huh?

As for the tree huggers, yeah I have a few friends who do Ecology. I swear the wooley jumpers and sandles ARE compulsary, though one has become a park ranger and now drives around a big ass forest in a landrover, and chops trees down with a chainsaw every now and again. He loves it....

That's what I see happening to all these people wanting in the gaming industry...

Good luck though guys...I'm not saying give up, but as someone already said, it isn't too easy.

I plan on working in the aerospace industry. About halfway there now, only 3 or so more years of school.
